Storage control method for database recovery in logless mode

The present invention is constituted so as to enable the recovery of a database even when a log comprising a DB update history is not created. When executing a transaction in the logless mode, a logless-start log is created and written to a primary log VOL 55A at the start of this transaction, and this logless-start log is also written to a secondary log VOL 55B. Thereafter, batch processing is carried out for a DB of a primary DB VOL 51A, and while this transaction is being executed, the pair-split state of the DB VOL is cancelled either prior to the start or after the end of the batch processing, and if the difference between the DB VOLs is eliminated subsequent to the end of batch processing, a logless-end log is created and written to the primary log VOL 55A, and this log is also written to the secondary log VOL 55B.

Solids Management in Slurry Hydroprocessing

The recovery of solids, and particularly solid particulates used as catalysts in slurry hydroprocessing, from asphaltene containing hydrocarbons is improved by controlling asphaltene precipitation. The formation of agglomerates of the solid particulates, having an increased diameter, results in the presence of precipitated asphaltenes, possibly due to flocculation. Asphaltene precipitation is controlled by varying process parameters or introducing additional diluent or flush streams that change the polarity of an asphaltene containing liquid product recovered from an effluent of a slurry hydroprocessing reaction zone.

Method and apparatus for recording data and recovering recorded data

The file system of a hard disk or optical disc may lose consistency when an unexpected event like a power failure occurs during recording. When recording a data stream, e.g. a video stream, an interruption would lead to a loss of stream data when previously known methods are used, because the file system is not updated. Further, the storage medium may become unusable. Dedicated file system data are put in regular intervals in user data fields of the data stream, providing the possibility to recover an interrupted stream recording. The method can also be used to recover data streams recorded on write-once discs, and it is independent from the used file system.

License tracking system

A method and system for remotely maintaining data that is critical for license enforcement. The data consists of named values, is kept on a user's trusted platform, and encrypted with the use of keys that are stored in two special registers. One register is exclusively readable by a trusted program, and holds a long-term secret. Another register is exclusively writable, and changed often, so that old backups of the named values can only be read if suitable permissions are obtained. It uses a hierarchy of servers that act as vendors and have contractual obligations. Vendor certificates specify that certain named values are stored on users' trusted platforms, but owned and controlled by servers (with the cooperation of the users).

Keystream encryption device, method, and program

A stream encryption device generates a first pseudo random number sequence from key information, generates a second pseudo random number sequence according to clock control performed according to the first pseudo random number sequence, and subjects it to a nonlinear function calculation, thereby generating a key stream. The stream encryption device performs XOR operation with a plain text so as to create an encrypted text.

Method and apparatus for recovery of particular bits of a frame

A method and an apparatus for recovery of particular bits in a frame are disclosed. An origination station forms a frame structure with groups of information bits of different importance. All the information bits are then protected by an outer quality metric. Additionally, the groups of more important information bits are further protected by an inner quality metric; each group having a corresponding quality metric. The frame is then transmitted to a destination station. The destination station decodes the received frame and decides, first in accordance with the outer quality metric, whether the frame has been correctly received, or whether the frame is erased. If the frame has been declared erased, the destination station attempts to recover the groups of more important information bits in accordance with the corresponding inner quality metrics.

Optical clock recovery apparatus and method and birefringent medium

An optical clock signal recovery apparatus includes a mode-locked semiconductor laser that generates an optical pulse train polarized in a first direction. Optical components of the apparatus transmit a component of an input optical signal polarized in a second direction, perpendicular to the first direction, into the mode-locked semiconductor laser while blocking the component of the input optical signal polarized in the first direction, and transmit light exiting the mode-locked semiconductor laser polarized in the first direction, while blocking light exiting the mode-locked semiconductor laser polarized in the second direction. The transmitted exiting light is output as a recovered optical clock signal.

Method for preparing a carbonized resin DNA immunoadsorbent

A method for preparing a carbonized resin DNA immunoadsorbent, which uses styrene, acrylonitrile, divinylbenzene, toluene, liquid paraffin, benzoyl peroxide and water solution of polyvinyl alcohol as raw materials, produces a DNA immunoadsorbent with 0.3-0.5 mg DNA per milliliter of resin using two-staged procedures for preparation of first carbonized resin, and secondly carbonized resin DNA immunoadsorbent. The resultant immunoadsorbent is high in adsorbent capacity, low in production cost, and can be synthesized without pyrogens. It therefore satisfies the demands of medical application for the treatment of systemic lupus erythematosus by immunoadsorption.
