A midsole for footwear comprising a midsole element, which comprises a top plate, a bottom plate, and a plurality of strut members disposed between the top and bottom plates for supporting the top plate a distance away from the bottom plate. Adjacent strut members have a C shaped cross-section facing in the same direction. The midsole element may further comprise a heel cleft to increase the flexibility of the sole. In a preferred embodiment, the strut members on the medial side are arranged at an angle to the strut members on the lateral side of the sole. The directional design provides flexibility and stiffness anisotropically to the sole in the longitudinal and lateral directions of the sole respectively.

Balanced humidification in fuel cell proton exchange membranes

A fuel cell with a gas diffusion media having a hydrophobic layer adjacent a flow field plate and a hydrophilic layer adjacent the membrane electrode assembly of the fuel cell. The two layers enable balanced humidification of reactant gas along with a basis for managing capillary water addition into the gas diffusion media. The combination of balanced moisture flux (via the hydrophobic layer) and the retention of water (via the hydrophilic layer) for humidifying reactant gas sustains hydration of the proton exchange membrane while preserving the catalyst at full activity.

System and method for determining a lubricant discard interval

A system, a method and a computer program to predict a portion of used lubricant in an engine that is to be drained and replaced by fresh lubricant based on an analysis parameter value that is measured in a sample of used engine lubricant from the engine. The system includes a first input that receives the analysis parameter value from the used lubricant and stores the analysis parameter value in a memory of a processor. A second input receives an analysis parameter threshold value for the used lubricant at the end of a service interval and stores the analysis parameter threshold value in a memory of the processor. A determiner predicts a future analysis parameter value of a mixture of used and fresh lubricant at the end of the service interval based on the analysis parameter value, and the analysis parameter threshold value.

Reed valve assembly

The reed valve assembly of the present invention includes a reed cage, a retainer, and reed petals. The retainer is independently interlockable with the reed cage. As defined herein, independently interlockable is understood to mean that no additional parts are required to connect the retainer to the reed cage. As implied by the term interlockable, the retainer and reed cage are separable. The reed petals are removably secured to the reed cage. In one embodiment, the reed petals are secured to the reed cage with the retainer.

System and method for determining a lubricant discard interval

A system, a method and a computer program to determine the usability of a lubricant such as, e.g., engine oil, and when to replace the lubricant in a particular engine. The system, method, and computer program are further configured to generate a lubricant discard interval for each engine in, e.g., a company's fleet of vehicles. The system, method, and computer program are configured to generate lubricant discard interval schedule for each of the vehicles in the company's fleet based on the lubricant discard intervals.

Composite nonwoven fabric and method for making same

A composite nonwoven fabric comprising multiple layers of a web formed from a blended mixture of metal fibers and nonmetal fibers is provided. The metal fibers preferably have a rough outer surface with irregular shaped cross-sections that vary along their length. The fibers of adjacent layers of the web material are interengaged in a needlepunching step. The composite nonwoven fabrics of the invention, which have very good isotropic strength. In a preferred embodiment, the composite nonwoven fabric is employed as a floor buffing pad for use with an electric floor buffing apparatus.

System and method for extending a lubricant discard interval

A system, a method and a computer program to predict a portion of used lubricant in an engine that is to be drained and replaced by fresh lubricant based on an analysis parameter value that is measured in a sample of used engine lubricant from the engine. The system includes a first input that receives the analysis parameter value from the used lubricant and stores the analysis parameter value in a memory of a processor. A second input receives an analysis parameter threshold value for the used lubricant at the end of a service interval and stores the analysis parameter threshold value in a memory of the processor. A determiner predicts a future analysis parameter value of the used lubricant at the end of the service interval based on the analysis parameter value, and the analysis parameter threshold value.

Method of tuning a bat and a tuned bat

A method of tuning a bat includes estimating a ball-bat interaction time, Ti, of an impact between a ball and the bat and tuning at least one desired mode of vibration in the bat produced by the impact. The desired mode of vibration is tuned by selecting properties of the bat so that the desired mode of vibration has a period approximately equal to 4 / 3Ti. When a mode of vibration is so tuned, the energy the vibration transfers to a batted ball is optimized. A tuned bat has one or more of the desired modes that is approximately equal to 4 / 3Ti, giving the bat a desirable bat performance factor and a desirable level of durability. Typically, the first hoop mode of vibration is given first priority during tuning of the bat. However, other modes of vibration, such as an axial bending mode of vibration may also be tuned.
