System and method for receiving over a network a broadcast from a broadcast source

A system and method for providing a broadcast to a receiver via a communication network. In particular, the broadcast is received via at least one global multicast channel. At least one local multicast channel is associated with the global multicast address. Then, a communication link is established between the receiver and the local multicast channel, and the broadcast is routed from the global multicast channel to the local multicast channel to provide the broadcast to the receiver. The number of the receivers which are receiving the broadcast may be determined. The receiver may include an Internet Protocol (IP) interface which enables the receiver to receive the broadcast via an IP-type multicast communication. The receiver may also be wireless, and can receive the broadcast in a first subnet using a multicast communication. Prior to the receiver moving to a second subnet, a request is generated by the receiver to receive the broadcast in the second subnet. After receiving the request, the broadcast is provided to the wireless receiver in the second subnet using the multicast communication.

Direct measurement of brillouin frequency in destributed optical sensing systems

An optical sensing system uses light scattered from a sensing fibre to sense conditions along the fibre, and has a receiver with a frequency to amplitude converter to obtain a frequency of a Brillouin component of the received scattered light, to deduce the conditions. This converter can avoid time consuming scanning of frequencies to obtain the Brillouin frequency spectrum, and avoids the heavy processing load of deducing a peak or average frequency from the spectrum. The converter can be implemented in the optical domain using a grating or interferometer, or in the electrical domain using a diplexer or electrical interferometer. It can generate complementary signals, having opposite signs, a ratio of these signals representing the frequency. This can avoid sensitivity to amplitude changes in the received scattered signals and provide common mode rejection of noise.

Ergonomic cable tie installation tool

An ergonomic cable tie installation tool includes a generally pistol-shaped housing including a grip which depends from a barrel. Pivotally connected to the lower region of the grip is a trigger linkage of a trigger mechanism. The trigger mechanism also includes an intermediate linkage pivotally connected to the trigger linkage. The intermediate linkage is supported in the housing. The intermediate linkage is, in turn, connected to a tensioning mechanism also supported in the housing. The tensioning mechanism couples the intermediate linkage to the cable tie. Pivoting the trigger linkage toward the grip, normally by the hand of a user, causes the intermediate linkage to pivot resulting in the tensioning mechanism producing an increased tension in the cable tie. The trigger linkage is oriented relative to the grip such that pivoting it toward the grip requires the stronger fingers of the user's hand to travel more than the weaker fingers thereby improving the ergonomics of the tool. The trigger linkage may also make the respective travel distances of the stronger and weaker fingers more uniform also improving the ergonomics of the cable tie installation tool. Moreover, the trigger mechanism may provide for the tension force applied to the cable tie to increase as the trigger linkage is increasingly pivoted toward the closed position. Methods of operating the tool also provide improved ergonomics of the tool.

Hoist

Abstract of the Disclosure A hoist pivotally connecting mast 1 to lifting arm 2, by a mechanism comprising a link 5 pivoting about a fixed pivot 8 on the mast 1 and a moving pivot 6 on the lifting arm 2. A restraining link 9 between a pivot 10 on the mast 1 and actuator attachment point 11 on the lifting arm 2 restricts the movement of link 5. The second link 9 acts as a stabilizer allowing the pivot 11 on the lifting arm 2 to move only through a set arc, determined by the length of the link 9 and the position of the pivot 10 on the mast 1. With the moving pivot according to the invention, the spreader bar attachment point 7 has a greater traveling distance than if it were simply pivoted about pivot 8 as with conventional hoists.
