Integrated imaging system

An imaging system having a front side and rear side enveloping a light transmitting space formed therebetween A front lens situated on the front side forms a portal through which light from an object enters into the light transmitting space wherein at least one optical element composed of glass or elastic material, liquid lenses or liquid crystal elements, and an image sensor are positioned to develop a folded beam path between the front lens and the image sensor, and a real image of the object on the image sensor. Electrically driving at least one optical element enables alteration of the focal length within the system in a manner switchable between at least two values. The change in focal length is realized with the aid of electrically controlled piezo-actuators or by an electric field applied to at least one variable optical element.

Spatial light modulator-based dual-beam optical tweezers system

The invention discloses a spatial light modulator-based dual-beam optical tweezers system. The system includes a laser, a first telescope system, a half wave plate, a first reflector, a spatial light modulator, a quarter-wave plate, a focusing lens, a second reflector, a second telescope system, an objective lens and a sample stage which are arranged sequentially along an optical path, wherein the half wave plate is used for adjusting the ratio of horizontal polarized light and vertical polarized light in a received beam, the first reflector is used for reflecting the received beam to a corresponding modulation area on the spatial light modulator, and the spatial light modulator is provided with two modulation areas loaded with different phase image information; the beam is subjected to phase modulation once, and then, the phase-modulated beam passes through the quarter-wave plate and the focusing lens, and thereafter is reflected by the second reflector; the reflected beam passes through the focusing lens and the quarter-wave plate again, and arrives at the other modulation region of the spatial light modulator, and thereafter, passes through the second telescope system and the objective lens sequentially, and arrives at the sample stage. With the spatial light modulator-based dual-beam optical tweezers system of the invention adopted, the application range of the optical tweezers can be greatly extended, and experiment accuracy can be improved.

Optimizing vcsel mirrors for improving temperature response

Improved slope efficiency in a VCSEL can be accomplished by selecting particular mirror layer compositions and / or mirror layer configurations that minimize increased reflectivity in the top mirror and / or maximize increased reflectivity of the bottom mirror with increasing temperature. Improved reflectivity of the bottom mirror compared to the top mirror over a desired operating temperature range can be facilitated by (i) selecting mirror pairs for the bottom and / or top mirror that gives the bottom mirror pairs a greater increase in contrast ratio with increasing temperature compared to the top-mirror pairs, and / or (ii) including fewer mirror pairs in the bottom mirror than the number of mirror pairs that would give optimal reflectivity.
