Provided is a gas separation type showerhead for effective energy supply. The gas separation type showerhead includes: a gas supply module to which a first gas and a second gas are separately supplied; a gas separation module in which the supplied first and second gases are separately dispersed; and a gas injection module which is a multi-hollow cathode having a plurality of holes and in which the first and second gases separately dispersed are ionized in the holes to be commonly dispersed.

Apparatus and method for cleaning air. An air cleaner includes a housing that defines an airflow pathway and a catalytic reactor having a catalyst secured on a porous substrate that is disposed transverse to the airflow pathway. Preferably, the catalyst includes a light activated oxidizing photocatalyst or a thermally activated oxidizing catalyst. A photocatalytic reactor will include a light source directed at a light activated oxidizing photocatalyst, such as TiO₂ particles or a binary oxide particle species, which is disposed on the porous substrate. Most preferably, a metal catalyst is disposed on the photocatalyst particles at a concentration or loading between about 0.01 wt % and about 5 wt %. The air cleaner may further comprise an adsorption matrix upstream of the catalytic reactor, optionally in combination with a heater. A particulate filter and/or an electrostatic precipitator may also be disposed upstream of the adsorption matrix and the catalytic reactor.

A process for forming a porous nanoscale membrane is described. The process involves applying a nanoscale film to one side of a substrate, where the nanoscale film includes a semiconductor material; masking an opposite side of the substrate; etching the substrate, beginning from the masked opposite side of the substrate and continuing until a passage is formed through the substrate, thereby exposing the film on both sides thereof to form a membrane; and then simultaneously forming a plurality of randomly spaced pores in the membrane. The resulting porous nanoscale membranes, characterized by substantially smooth surfaces, high pore densities, and high aspect ratio dimensions, can be used in filtration devices, microfluidic devices, fuel cell membranes, and as electron microscopy substrates.

An improved filter element for use in an electrostatic precipitation air cleaning device, the filter element including rod electrodes arranged through a stack of alternating fluted plastic sheets and plate electrodes. Successive plate electrodes are arranged to make contact with an alternating one or the other of the rod electrodes. The plate and rod electrodes may be composed of high impedance materials such as paper and plastic, respectively. An arrangement for removably inserting a filter element into an air cleaning device is provided. The plane dust collection device has the advantages of simple structure, flexible electrode shape, wide application range, suitability in dedusting of the surfaces of a plurality of devices and high removal efficiency on small dust.

An electro-kinetic air conditioner for removing particulates from the air creates an airflow using no moving parts. The conditioner includes an ion generator that has an electrode assembly including a first array of emitter electrodes, a second array of collector electrodes, and a high voltage generator. Preferably, a third or leading or focus electrode is located upstream of the first array of emitter electrodes, and/or a trailing electrode is located downstream of the second array of collector electrodes. The device can also include an interstitial electrode located between collector electrodes, an enhanced collector electrode with an integrally formed trailing end, and an enhanced emitter electrode with an enhanced length in order to increase emissitivity.

The present invention provides a combination filter for filtering fluids comprising a flow channel particulate filtration media having a first face and a second face and a gas adsorbing filtration media. The flow channel particulate filtration media comprises a plurality of flow channels directed in flow direction and defined by inner surfaces. The flow channels having inlet openings through the first face and outlet openings through the second face of the flow channel particulate filtration media. The inner surfaces of said flow channels at least in part are provided with structures protruding therefrom and forming or extending into the flow channels or an electrical charge or a combination of both. The said gas adsorbing filtration media comprises a pad having a first face and a second face and width and length dimensions orthogonal with respect to each other and each individually to the flow direction and having a thickness dimension in flow direction. The pad comprising a layer extending substantially perpendicular to the flow direction across the width and length dimensions of the pad.
