Electric generator and motor drive system

A drive system which integrates an electric generator, one or more electric motors and an electronic control module is configured as a variable speed drive in either single, dual or four wheeled traction drive configurations for a mower. The generator is mechanically driven by the output shaft of an internal combustion engine to generate the electrical power for energizing the electric motors. A central computer in the electronic control module controls the output voltage of the generator and the speed and torque of each of the motors in the drive system. The speed input signal for the motors can be analog signals that come from sources such as a joystick, a potentiometer mounted on a steering wheel, control panel, foot pedal or remote location or digital signals from a digital device. Position / speed detectors on each motor and the generator send signals back to the central computer for closed-loop control of the generator and of the motors. The generator supplies the DC voltage to the power control board for each motor as commanded by the central computer. The rotor of each motor is connected to a gearbox for speed reduction and increased torque that is applied to the wheel mounted on the output shaft of the gearbox. When the motors are not being driven, the generator may optionally supply DC power to the input of an inverter that has an output to standard electric utility AC outlets that can be used to power auxiliary equipment.

Hybrid construction machine

In a hybrid excavator of the invention, a hydraulic pump and a generator motor are connected in parallel to an output shaft of an engine and a rotation motor is driven by a battery. The generator motor assists the engine by performing a motor function. Power consumption of each of the hydraulic pump and the rotation motor is detected. The output of the hydraulic pump and the rotation motor is controlled such that the sum of the detected power consumption does not exceed maximum supply power set as the sum of power that can be supplied to the hydraulic pump and the rotation motor. Therefore, the equal performance and operation with the hydraulic excavator can be ensured, and the electric power storage arrangement can be protected.

Speed control for utility vehicle operable from rearward-facing seat

A speed control system for a utility vehicle, the vehicle having a forward-facing driving position and a rearward-facing seat, includes a creep control system for moving the utility vehicle, controlled from the rearward-facing seat. The vehicle includes a speed-controllable transmission operable to output power to drive a wheel. The vehicle includes a creep speed control actuator located adjacent to the rearward-facing seat and a creep speed control system operatively connected to the actuator and to the transmission. The system converts movement of the actuator to speed change of the transmission. The transmission can be a mechanically or electronically controlled hydrostatic transmission, or an electronically controlled reverser transmission.

Under-hood engine air intake system

InactiveUS20050211483A1Eliminate and minimize intakeInternal combustion piston enginesAir coolingAmbient airHeat exchanger
An engine air intake system including an engine air intake device and a plenum cooling compartment that is separate from the engine compartment by a baffle. The plenum cooling compartment is formed by the baffle, side doors, a fan door and a floor and contains a heat exchanger. A fan draws outside ambient air into the plenum cooling compartment, via perforations in the top and side doors, and out of the plenum cooling area via the heat exchanger. The cooling compartment is designed such that a distance between the heat exchanger and the baffle provides a gap from which the engine air intake device removes ambient air as a source for engine air. An option is provide for the system to withdraw outside ambient air from an area external to the plenum cooling compartment in high debris environments. The engine air intake system cleans the air before supplying it to the engine.

Control system for a load-carrying vehicle

A control system for a load-carrying vehicle includes a sensor configured to measure a parameter of the vehicle and communicate a sensor signal indicative of the measured parameter. The control system also includes a control module configured to receive the sensor signal from the sensor and determine an appropriate engine power level based on the sensor signal.
