System and method for use of distributed electronic wallets

Methods and systems whereby two electronic wallets communicate and exchange information. In one such system, a consumer's personal electronic wallet communicates with the exclusive or preferred wallet of a web merchant. In one such system, an internet consumer registers with a web merchant's exclusive or preferred electronic wallet (“merchant wallet”) and provides consumer information (e.g., credit card number, mailing address, and other information) to the merchant wallet, which is stored by the merchant wallet in a database on the merchant server. Such information may be automatically populated by the consumer's personal electronic wallet. The consumer maintains current consumer information in a consumer electronic wallet on the consumer's personal computer. When the consumer visits the merchant site again, and orders goods or services, the merchant's preferred wallet can be automatically updated by the consumer's electronic wallet if any of the data in the merchant's wallet has changed. For example, the consumer wallet examines the information in the merchant wallet to determine if the information in the merchant wallet conforms to the current information in the consumer wallet. If the information does not conform, the consumer wallet communicates the current consumer information to the merchant wallet.

Methods and apparatus for generating and distribution of surface mail objects

<heading lvl="0">Abstract of Disclosure< / heading> A method for generating and distributing mail items includes creating a first and a second mail file, wherein each of the first and second mail files includes recipient address information, and wherein the first mail file is generated by a first user, and the second mail file is generated by a second user. The first and second mail files are then transmitted to a mail service computer over a global computer network and printed, on a single sheet of media, a first mail item in accordance with the first mail file, and a second mail item in accordance with the second mail file. The first and second mail items are then placed into a surface mail system. The first mail item is addressed in accordance with the first recipient address information, and the second mail item is addressed in accordance with the second recipient address information. The mail item is then placed into the surface mail system in such a way as to minimize handling damage, and to leverage available postal technology. The mail items are then delivered to the postal addresses of the intended recipients.

Method of Processing Mailpieces Using Customer Codes Associated With Digital Fingerprints

In a method of processing mailpieces, Customer Applied Identifier (CAI) codes are assigned to the mailpieces by a sender of the mailpieces, and are used by the postal operator while the mailpieces are passing through a postal sorting system. Said CAI codes are recorded in memory in the sorting system in correspondence with first digital fingerprints or image signatures prior to the first pass of the mailpieces through the postal sorting system. While a current mailpiece is passing through the sorting system in a first sorting pass, an image is formed of the surface of the mailpiece that bears a postal address block, and a current fingerprint and location information for locating said mailpiece in the sorting process is derived from the image of said mailpiece. A search is made for a match between said current fingerprint and a first fingerprint recorded in memory in order to retrieve a current CAI code with which said location information is

Technique for updating a private directory at an information/call center

An information assistance service automatically updates contact information in a subscriber's contacts folder or private directory. The information assistance service receives changes to its public telephone number database, which includes name, telephone number, postal address, and possibly e-mail address, compares the information in the contacts folder to be updated with the changes to the public database, and replaces the information in the contacts folder with new information if the telephone number is included within the changes to the public database. The subscriber may choose to be notified before or after such replacement is made—if before, the user may approve the changes one-by-one or all together. The updating can be performed in substantially real-time, as soon as changes to the public database are received, or the updating can be performed less frequently than those changes are received. In the latter case, the changes made to the public database since the last update are kept track of. Alternatively, shadow record information about a contact may be derived when a contact is added to a contacts folder, and an intelligent search may be performed using the shadow record information to update the contact record.

Call Adapter for Cellular Phones

A system, method, and call adapter for processing cellular phone's placed calls on its wireless enabled link are presented. For placing a call from a cellular phone on its wireless enabled link (such as Bluetooth, Wi-Fi) the calling party transmits data, from the cellular phone, associated with the called party to a call adapter through the wireless communication link. The transmitted data can contain necessary data for placing the call (such as telephone number, alias, e-mail address, web address) as well as unnecessary data (such as postal address). The call adapter receives wireless transmitted data, extracts the required data for placing the call, and establishes the call on the PSTN (public switched telephone network) or on a broadband network (such as cable, satellite, DSL-digital subscriber line), according to the calling party selection. The call adapter forwards the call to a telephone with handset (corded or cordless), to a cellular phone, to another device on the same wireless network as the cellular phone, or to a device on a different wireless network, according to the calling party's selection. The call adapter releases the call after the communication is over (for example after the telephone handset is on-hook).The call adapter may be implemented as a standalone device and may be implemented as part of other devices (such as in telephone sets, broadband modems, set-up-boxes, and PC).
