31 results about "Medical surveillance" patented technology

The mission of a medical surveillance program is to keep workers healthy and ensure that employers are meeting OSHA standards in health and safety. Medical surveillance has an emphasis on prevention: it is designed to detect potential workplace hazards before irreversible health effects can occur. Clinicians with expertise in occupational health, industrial exposures, and respiratory protection screen workers with physical examinations, blood testing, spirometry, and audiometry. Screenings are performed at set intervals, often annually. The clinicians providing medical surveillance services include board-certified occupational and environmental medicine physicians, mid-level practitioners, nurses, and NIOSH-certified spirometry technicians.

Systems and method for homeostatic blood states

Decades of investigations were focused on finding “gold standard” for evaluation of plasma dilution and osmolality, blood loss evaluation and prediction of bleeding or transfusion induced changes in hematocrit and hemoglobin concentration. Addressing deficiencies of existing methods, the current invention created new combined mathematical-physiological model applicable to manually operated nomograms and software in medical monitors. The mathematical model HBS Trends is used in blood transfusion and infusion therapy nomogram—HBS Nomogram—which is based on blood hemoglobin concentration and hematocrit. It is also an easy and practical tool for recording and dynamical interpretation of plasma osmolality, blood hemoglobin concentration, hematocrit and mean corpuscular hemoglobin concentration. The HBS Nomogram is a practical system for organizing blood test results in a patient's medical records. It can be used alone or, in line with existing guidelines for infusion and transfusion therapy making them more practical, cost effective and time saving in decision making.

Generic data compression for heart diagnosis

A method and associated systems for generic data compression. A mobile device receives realtime data from a medical-monitoring device, such as a heart monitor, worn by a patient. The invention compresses and encodes this data into ASCII text characters, which are transmitted via a commonly available low-bandwidth text-messaging service, such as the SMS service supported by most cell phones. The text messages are received by a second mobile device, which decodes the text characters into their original form and displays them to a healthcare practitioner. More critical portions of the data are encoded by a high-precision lossless compression mechanism. In some embodiments, the two mobile devices may be cell phones and the second device may have the ability to interpret the decoded information in order to determine whether to directly or indirectly alert the practitioner or other parties of an exceptional condition detected by the medical monitor.
