Information display board

An information display board system especially adapted for use by travelers and tourists along an interstate highway. The display board is located at a rest stop or other location readily accessible by road travelers and displays a map of the road along which it is positioned and a listing of hotels / motels, points of interest and other lodgings in the region. ID / status indicators are provided which illuminate in one color, i.e., green, to indicate room availability and illuminate in a different color, i.e., red, to indicate room unavailability. Road alert indicators are positioned along the road map and are selectively illuminated to indicate delays or other road conditions. The illumination of the ID / status and road alert indicators are remotely changeable by hotel operators and the road authority, by directly calling a board manager. The board manager includes communication hardware in the form of a programmable computer and telephone control circuitry. A board manager receives information from the hotel operators and road authority as well as a central operator and controls the updating of the display boards via the communication hardware. Background information about the hotels and road locations can also be entered by the central operator and stored in the computer for later display to the operator.

The elastic diaphragms or elastic bodies may extend into the guidance matrix cavities. These subsurface structures may be utilized to provide variable tactile response corresponding to the locations of keys on a virtual keyboard displayed on the display panel.

Liquid crystal display device

A liquid crystal display device 1 of the invention has a liquid crystal display panel in which a liquid crystal layer 14 is provided between a TFT substrate 2 and a CF substrate 25 that has a common electrode 26, a light sensing component LS1 with a TFT photosensor that senses external light, and an illuminating means controlled according to the output of the light sensing component. The light sensing component is deployed at the periphery of the TFT substrate's display area DA and uses a thin film transistor as photosensor. A capacitor C is connected between source and drain electrodes SL, DL for such TFT photosensor. One of the capacitor's terminals is connected to a standard voltage source VS via a switch element SW, and the other to the common electrode 26. Voltage that is always lower than the voltage applied to the common electrode by an amount corresponding to a reverse bias voltage is applied to the gate electrode GL for the TFT photosensor. The capacitor's voltage a certain time after the switch element turns off is output. As a result, it will be possible to provide a liquid crystal display device in which the light sensing component incorporated in the liquid crystal display panel is not susceptible to the influence of the drive signals for the display panel, and in which the light sensing component does not induce deterioration of the liquid crystals.
