Process for the preparation of aromatic dicarboxylic acids

InactiveUS20040225148A1Operation efficiency is reducedHigh purityOrganic compound preparationRotary centrifugesSolventChemistry
A process for producing aromatic dicarboxylic acids which comprises subjecting an aromatic compound having an alkyl substituent or a partially oxidized alkyl substituent to liquid-phase oxidation with a molecular oxygen-containing gas in a reaction solvent in the presence of a catalyst, then conducting solid-liquid separation of the formed slurry containing crystals of the produced aromatic dicarboxylic acid, and recovering the crystals, wherein when carrying out solid-liquid separation of the slurry by continuously supplying it to a screen-type centrifugal separator having a screw conveyor disposed therein, a screen with an opening size that allows partial escape of crystals in the supplied slurry through the screen openings is used as the screen of the screen-type centrifugal separator. According to this method, clogging of the centrifugal separator is prevented and solid-liquid separation can be carried out efficiently.

Solar water still

InactiveUS7008515B1Prevent liquid flowSimple inflatable designAuxillariesGeneral water supply conservationSolar waterEngineering
A solar water still (10) includes an enclosure assembly (12) and an evaporation assembly (14) that float on a body of source water and that are readily collapsed and folded for storage or transport. The enclosure assembly includes a transparent conical dome (20) covering a collection reservoir (18) and an inner float ring (16). The evaporation assembly is placed in the center of the inner float ring. During operation, solar radiation induces water to evaporate from the evaporation assembly. The water vapor is then condensed and collected by the enclosure assembly.

Collapsible wagon and method of collapsing a wagon

A collapsible wagon comprises a frame, four wheels, a pliable liner, and a telescoping tow handle. The frame has four sides that are each formed by a respective scissor-bar assembly. The frame also has a vertically oriented telescoping pole assembly at the intersection of each pair of the scissor-bar assemblies. The frame is configured such that, as the wagon is altered from its expanded to its collapsed configuration, the scissor-bar assemblies and the telescoping pole assemblies increase in height and the scissor-bar assemblies decrease in width. Each of the four wheels is attached to a bottom end portion of a respective one of the telescoping pole assemblies. The pliable liner is connected to the frame and defines an open-top interior compartment of the wagon when the wagon is in its expanded configuration. The telescoping tow handle is adjustable between collapsed and expanded configurations.
