Port congestion notification in a switch

A congestion notification mechanism provides a congestion status for all destinations in a switch at each ingress port. Data is stored in a memory subsystem queue associated with the destination port at the ingress side of the crossbar. A cell credit manager tracks the amount of data in this memory subsystem for each destination. If the count for any destination exceeds a threshold, the credit manager sends an XOFF signal to the XOFF masks. A lookup table in the XOFF masks maintains the status for every switch destination based on the XOFF signals. An XON history register receives the XOFF signals to allow queuing procedures that do not allow a status change to XON during certain states. Flow control signals directly from the memory subsystem are allowed to flow to each XOFF mask, where they are combined with the lookup table status to provide a congestion status for every destination.

Method and apparatus for keeping track of virtual LAN topology in network of nodes

An arbitrary node that belongs to a virtual LAN sends a request packet including a count value indicating the number of communication hops across nodes to each of its adjacent nodes that belong to the virtual LAN and are adjacent. Upon receiving the request packet, each of the adjacent nodes sends the request packet in which the count value is incremented or decremented, as predetermined, to each of its adjacent nodes that belong to the virtual LAN and are adjacent to the node, excluding a sender of the request packet received, and sends a reply packet including the sender's address (sender address), an address of the node that is a replying node (replying node address), and the count value to a given return destination. The return destination collects reply packets sent thereto and keeps track of the topology of the nodes constituting the virtual LAN from information contained in the reply packets.

Synchronizing clock signals of server and client devices in a network system based on power source synchronous pulse signal

In a network system, clock signals of a server device and a client device are synchronized with each other without having any influence of a change and a delay of the transmission time of data. Therefore, in the network system in which the client device receives and reproduces information transmitted from the server device, the server device counts the number of clock pulses of a server clock signal used to compress and encode information on the basis of a power source synchronous pulse signal synchronized with a power source frequency. The server device outputs information showing the counted clock pulse number and the compressed and encoded information to the client device. The client device counts the number of clock pulses of a client clock signal used to decode and decompress the compressed and encoded information on the basis of the power source synchronous pulse signal synchronized with the power source frequency. The client device conforms the frequency of the client clock signal to the frequency of the server clock signal on the basis of the clock difference between the clock pulse number received from the server device and the counted clock pulse number.

Topping up a subscriber's account for a multimedia service on a communications network while the service is being provided

InactiveUS20030014367A1Metering/charging/biilling arrangementsPrepayment with real-time account/card rechargingSession Initiation ProtocolApplication server
A subscriber of a communications network is enabled to top-up an account for a multimedia service provided on the communications network while the service is being provided. Real-time prepaid charging may be applied to a multimedia service being provided to a subscriber of a communications network. Both a count and a time period may be determined from an account balance, and the number of information units exchanged during the service and the duration of the service may be compared against the count and time period, respectively. Further processing may be defined to be performed if either and / or both thresholds are reached. A subscriber of a communications network may be notified of a threshold amount of service being reached while the service is being provided using the same session as is being used to provide the service (in-band) or using a different session (out-of-band). Further, a subscriber may be notified of a threshold being reached using a Short Message Service (SMS) by sending an SMS message to the subscriber. A subscriber of a communications network may be enabled to top-up a service account while the service is being provided using the same session as is being used to provide the service (in-band) or using a different session (out-of-band). To notify the client that a threshold for a service has been reached and / or to enable the client to top-up, either in-band or out-of-band sessions may be used based on any of a number of factors, including a characteristic of the session in progress implementing the service, the capabilities of the user terminal, the capabilities of the application and application server providing the service, or any combination thereof. A session for providing a multimedia service may be implemented using a multimedia control protocol capable of controlling (e.g., initiating, maintaining and terminating) a session that includes the exchange of multimedia content, including audio, video, data or any combination thereof. For example, such protocol may be the Session Initiation Protocol (SIP). Service content transmitted from a server to a subscriber on the subscriber's user terminal may be buffered (e.g., cached) in a buffer while the subscriber is provided the opportunity to top-up the account. While the subscriber is being enabled to top-up a prepaid account for a service, a different billing method, for example, postpaid charging, may be applied for the service until the subscriber tops-up or until the opportunity to top-up has elapsed.

Method and system for optimizing cell-neighbor lists

A count is made of the number of mobile assisted handoff (MAHO) attempts between a service cell and a targeted cell. A count is also made of the number of times the targeted cell is considered a Best Candidate (BestCand) for handoff from the service cell. If the targeted cell is not included in the service cell's neighbor list, a potential neighbor cell (PNC), hysteresis is added to the targeted cell to prevent handoffs to the targeted cell. The MAHO and BestCand counts are determined and if the counts meet or exceed predetermined threshold values the targeted cell is added to the list. If the targeted cell is on the neighbor list, no hysteresis is added. If the count data does not meet or exceed the threshold values, the target is removed from the list

Sigma Delta Over-Sampling Charge Pump Analog-To-Digital Converter

Techniques are presented for determining current levels based on the behavior of a charge pump system while driving a load under regulation. While driving the load under regulation, the number of pump clocks during a set interval is counted. This can be compared to a reference that can be obtained, for example, from the numbers of cycles needed to drive a known load current over an interval of the duration. By comparing the counts, the amount of current being drawn by the load can be determined. This technique can be applied to determining leakage from circuit elements, such as word lines in a non-volatile memory. The accuracy and level of resolution can be further increased through use of sigma delta noise shaping.

Dynamic bandwidth allocation in AD hoc wireless piconets

One of a number, n, of slave devices is selected for express or implicit polling by a master device in a communication system that transmits during individual ones of a number of sequentially occurring time slots. This is done by assigning a corresponding priority level to each slave device, wherein at least two slave devices are assigned different corresponding priority levels. A corresponding count parameter and a corresponding initial count value are assigned to each of the slave devices. For each of the slave devices, the corresponding count parameter is initialized to the corresponding initial count value. For each successive time slot, each of the count parameters is adjusted (e.g., by decrementing). A highest priority slave device whose corresponding count parameter has reached or passed a predetermined value is selected for polling.
