91 results about "Available light" patented technology

In photography and cinematography, available light or ambient light refers to any source of light that is not explicitly supplied by the photographer for the purpose of taking photos. The term usually refers to sources of light that are already available naturally (e.g. the sun, moon, lightning) or artificial light already being used (e.g. to light a room). It generally excludes flashes, although arguably flash lighting provided by other photographers shooting simultaneously in the same space could be considered available light. Light sources that affect the scene and are included in the actual frame are called practical light sources, or simply practicals.

Pole-mounted power generation systems, structures and processes

Solar power systems and structures are mountable to a power distribution structure, e.g. a power pole or tower, which supports alternating current (AC) power transmission lines. An exemplary power generation structure is fixedly attached to and extends from the power distribution structure, and comprises a mounting rack. A solar array, comprising at least one solar panel, is affixed to the mounting rack. A DC to AC invertor is connected between the DC outputs of the solar array and the AC power transmission lines. The length of the solar array is generally in alignment with the power distribution structure, and the width of the solar array is greater than half the is circumference of the power distribution structure. The mounting rack and solar array may preferably be rotatable, such as based on any of location, time of day, or available light.

Photosensitive display panel

A light-sensitive (i.e., touch-sensitive) display device that requires less circuitry than the currently available light-sensitive display devices is presented. Unlike the currently available devices, which require at least two switching elements and a capacitor to implement a photosensitive switch, the invention only requires one switching element. The device of the invention includes a substrate with a plurality of scan lines, a plurality of read-out lines, a power line, and an array of photosensitive switches formed thereon. The scan lines and the read-out lines extend in directions that are substantially perpendicular to each other, forming pixels. One photosensitive switch is formed in each pixel, and each photosensitive switch has one light-sensitive transistor. The transistor connects the power line to one of the read-out lines in response to sensing incident light.

LED cove lighting for exterior fascia

This invention is a lighting fixture to project even illumination onto flat panels. The fixture is a formed specular aluminum reflector with LEDs mounted to provide even and directed light, with modular connectors and power sources, allowing for variable lengths when combined with field adjustable housings and supports; or when mounted in a fixed length housing, to allow for linear lighting using any number of selectable lengths. This invention provides a pre-determined and directed light pattern requiring no field adjustment. The use of long life, weather resistant light emitting diodes provides for low maintenance and low energy consumption. The use of specular aluminum allows up to 95% of the light to be reflected to the surface, as well as provides heat sink properties further prolonging the life of the LEDs. By focusing all the available light on the desired area and eliminating stray light, lower wattage LEDs can be used.

Vacuum ultraviolet referencing reflectometer

A spectroscopy system is provided which operates in the vacuum ultraviolet spectrum. More particularly, a system utilizing reflectometry techniques in the vacuum ultraviolet spectrum is provided for use in metrology applications. To ensure accurate and repeatable measurement, the environment of the optical path is controlled to limit absorption effects of gases that may be present in the optical path. To account for absorption effects that may still occur, the length of the optical path is minimized. To further account for absorption effects, the reflectance data may be referenced to a relative standard. Referencing is particularly advantageous in the VUV reflectometer due to the low available photon flux and the sensitivity of recorded data to the composition of the gaseous medium contained with the optical path. Thus, errors that may be introduced by changes in the controlled environment may be reduced. In one exemplary embodiment, the VUV reflectometer may utilize a technique in which a beam splitter is utilized to create a sample beam and a reference beam to form the two arms of a near balanced Mach Zehnder interferometer. In another exemplary embodiment, the reference channel may be comprised of a Michelson interferometer.

Digital still camera, imaging method, and exposure decision method

A digital still camera has a function to perform first and second exposures in a single imaging sequence. In the first exposure, imaging conditions are determined to obtain proper exposure amount of the background with available light. Then, the second exposure is carried out with the flashlight to illuminate the main subject. The photographic sensitivity, the shutter speed, and the aperture value for the second exposure are determined such that the exposure value in the second exposure is under-exposure by two steps or more, compared to that in the first exposure. Images obtained by first and second exposures are synthesized to obtain a composite image.

Method and system for obtaining visual information from an image sequence using visual tunnel analysis

A method and a system for obtaining visual information from an image sequence using a visual tunnel analysis are described. The present invention determines the position and orientation of rays captured in the image sequence and uses these rays to provide visual information. This visual information includes, for example, visual prediction information (whereby the extent of visibility and appearance of a virtual camera at arbitrary locations are determined) and visual planning (whereby a minimum number of images that need to be captured to visualize a desired region is determined). Generally, the visual tunnel analysis uses a subset of the plenoptic function to determine the position and orientation of every light ray passing through each point of images in the sequence. A visual tunnel associated with an input image sequence is a volume in visibility space that represents that portion of the visibility space occupied by the input image sequence. The visual tunnel is a representation of all light rays associated with the image sequence. The present invention encodes the orientation, appearance, and density of the available light rays at every point in free space.

Image sensing device and control method thereof

This invention allows to shoot an image using correct object distance information and light emitting amount when the main light emitting amount upon shooting an object image is calculated by making the pre-light emission after the auto-focusing process. To this end, when a predetermined button independent of a release button is operated, a focusing process is executed first. Then, photometry is made while inactivating a strobe, i.e., under available light, and an exposure value is determined based on an object distance. Then, pre-light emission is made, light reflected by the object in the pre-light emission is measured, and the photometry result under the available light is subtracted from that in the pre-light emission, so as to obtain a brightness value of object reflected light of only the pre-light emission. This brightness value is corrected to be equal to lower than an allowable maximum value depending on the object distance to compute a main light emitting amount. After that, when the release button is operated, the strobe is driven on the basis of the determined main light emitting amount, and shooting is made using the determined exposure value.
