To the collated fibers is applied a urethane resin so as to permeate through the layers and the materials are passed through a die to form a thermo-set cross-linked poly-urethane. The transverse layer or layers are relatively thin having a weight less than or equal to 0.5 ounces per square foot and more preferably as low as 0.25 ounces or 0.1 ounces.

The present invention uses the strength of an arching geometric shape for the recessed area to be able to further reduce the thickness of steel for minimal resistance to the perforating jet. Minimizing the resistance to the perforating jet increases the depth of penetration into the rock formation and increases the hole size.
