Apparatus and method for abrading a workpiece

An apparatus for abrading a workpiece comprises a first plate assembly having a first surface for supporting a workpiece and a second plate assembly having a second surface for engaging the workpiece to abrade a portion thereof. A displacement shaft is mounted for movement with respect to the upper and lower plate assemblies and has a first end configured to engage the upper plate assembly. A feedback assembly is coupled to the displacement shaft for moving the displacement shaft to substantially maintain a predetermined load exerted on the displacement shaft by the upper plate assembly.

Metal working power supply converter system and method

A power supply for welding, cutting and similar operations includes a dual two-switch forward converter. The converter has two inverter circuits coupled in parallel but controlled to provide output power in an interleaved fashion. To avoid “walking” of the circuits (which could result in different duty cycles and imbalance of the load sharing), control signals are determined and applied to a first of the inverter circuits, and “on” times of the first circuit is monitored, such as by augmenting a counter to determine the number of clock cycles the first circuit is “on”. The same duration is then used for commanding output from the second inverter circuit. The duty cycles of both circuits is thus ensured to be the same regardless of changes in the total output power.

Gasket component with half-stop and method of manufacturing

A gasket for providing a gas and fluid tight between parts of an internal combustion engine, for example around a combustion chamber opening, is provided. The gasket includes a functional layer with a full embossment spaced from the combustion chamber opening. A stopper layer is attached to the functional layer adjacent the combustion chamber opening. After attaching the stopper layer to the functional layer, half embossments are simultaneously formed in the functional layer and the stopper layer adjacent the combustion chamber opening. The aligned half embossments are together referred to as a half-stop. The half-stop maintains the load on the stopper layer, limits compression on the full embossment, and protects the full embossment from combustion gases when the gasket is compressed between two parts of the internal combustion engine.

Nanoparticles of N-halamine-derivatized crosslinked polyamide. Process of preparing the polymeric nanoparticles per se and incorporated in or on a substrate. Uses of the polymeric nanoparticles and of substrates incorporating same, particularly for reducing a formation of organic-based contaminants, e.g., load of a microorganism or of a biofilm.
