Blind interference mitigation in a digital receiver

A novel and useful apparatus for and method of Gaussian Minimum Shift Keying (GMSK) single antenna interference cancellation (SAIC) for use in a digital receiver. The invention comprises an interference mitigation module that treats the problem of GMSK SAIC in a blind manner. The interference mitigation mechanism is operative to compensate for the co-channel interference added in the communications channel which is subject to multipath propagation and fading, receiver filter and any pre-channel estimation filtering. The interference mitigation module takes advantage of the spatial diversity making up multiple branches of the received signal. The branches comprise the in-phase and quadrature elements of the received signal, the sampling phases if over sampling is applied (i.e. T / m sampling) and / or multiple antennas. The invention utilizes the spatial diversity of these multiple representations of the received signal and combines (i.e. collapses) the information in the plurality of branches into a single branch that is input to the equalizer.

Double Talk Detection Method Based On Spectral Acoustic Properties

A method of detecting double talk condition in hands free communication devices is disclosed. In general, the method in accordance with the teachings of this invention detects double talk conditions based on inherent frequency response differences between the transducers used and acoustical effect on the spectrum of the returned echo signal. An input signal from a far-end talker and an input signal from the output from an echo canceler are received by the detector. K spectral subbands are created for each input signal. From this K subbands q subbands are selected based on inherent frequency differences between the far-end transducer and a near-end transducer. The spectral echo residual power is estimated at each subband. The estimated spectral echo power and the output signal from the echo canceler for a selected subband are compared to a predetermined threshold. Based on this comparison, it is determined whether double talk conditions exist based on the comparison.

Method and Apparatus For Selecting An Audio Stream

An active stream is selected from one of a plurality of audio streams generated in a common acoustic environment by obtaining, for each stream obtaining, at a series of measurement instants tn, where n=1 . . . N, a final performance metric that is representative of the stream's goodness for representing near-end speech at each measurement instant tn. The final performance metrics for each stream are accumulated to determine an overall performance score. A switch to a new stream as the active stream occurs when the stream with the best overall performance score exceeds the overall performance score of the currently active stream by a threshold amount.

Seal-quality estimation for a seal for an ear canal

Measurements of body sounds in the ear canal may be used for many applications. However, reliability is dependent on the ear canal being properly sealed to allow the body sounds to achieve a detectable level. An apparatus is therefore provided for determining a seal quality indication for a seal of an ear canal. An ear canal microphone (201) provides a microphone signal to an input (203) which is coupled to a circuit (205) for generating a first signal from the microphone signal. The first signal may be the same as the microphone signal. A circuit (209) then determines the seal quality in response to the frequency spectrum for the first signal. A frequency transformer (207) may perform a frequency transformation on the first signal to generate a frequency spectrum for the first signal and. The seal quality indication may specifically be generated based on a detection of a low frequency boost.

Method and apparatus for quantitating surface-binding optical resonance profiles

Empirical profile curve fits (260) are used to quantitative the surface optical resonance profiles (268) using two EPF stages of calibration and fit. The calibration surface binding optical resonance scan is obtained with fine angle or wavelength spacing over a range including the full resonance profiles for all regions.
