Dynamic community-based cache for mobile search

A “Community-Based Mobile Search Cache” provides various techniques for maximizing the number of query results served from a local “query cache”, thereby significantly limiting the need to connect to the Internet or cloud using 3G or other wireless links to service search queries. The query cache is constructed remotely and downloaded to mobile devices. Contents of the query cache are determined by mining popular queries from mobile search logs, either globally or based on queries of one or more groups or subgroups of users. In various embodiments, searching and browsing behaviors of individual users are evaluated to customize the query cache for particular users or user groups. The content of web pages related to popular queries may also be included in the query cache. This allows cached web pages to be displayed without first displaying cached search results when a corresponding search result has a sufficiently high click-through probability.

Multicast in point-to-point packet-switched oriented networks

The invention relates to a method, network node, router, serving node and system for performing multicast in a point-to-point packet-switched oriented telecommunication network. The basic idea is to introduce pre-configured multicast transmission for parts of a network. This is done by creating pre-configured transport multicast group tunnels between a router and a serving node in order to transport the multicast data. Further the present invention describes the possibility of multiplexing of the multicast data streams on a pre-configured transport multicast group tunnel. In particular the invention is applicable for multicasting in networks, like UMTS with a scarce number of resources, in the IP network between the SGSN and GGSN for example on the Gn interface.

Method and system for bypassing media gateways in wireless networks

A call processing method and system in which the use of the MGW between the RNC and the peer party is limited to only certain situations. This invention uses RFC 3267 (AMR / IETF) on the RNC. This will avoid inserting a MGW context for framing conversion only. This invention provides an optimization that sets up calls from the RNC, thus avoiding the need for a MGW in the path for basic calls. With this optimization, the usage of DSP and packet resources and the number of MGW chassis, as well as bearer path delay, are all reduced.

Enhanced directional prediction apparatus and methods are taught which are based on edge-based adaptive directional estimation, for providing an improved prediction direction for intra prediction within a coding device. Image gradient vectors are obtained for pixels in the neighborhood of the current block, and edge directions determined. Candidate edge directions are processed to derive a dominant edge direction in response to defining an objective function as a summation of projections to a candidate direction and computing suggested direction of each neighboring pixel. The dominant edge direction may be utilized for the prediction direction, such as in response to a detection mode flag signaled to the decoder, or modified by an angular adjustment, which can be communicated to a decoder.
