Communication of control information in wireless communication systems

A wireless system has a high rate data channel for time multiplexed communications to multiple mobile stations (MSs). Control channels include a forward link common power control channel and reverse link feedback channels for pilot, forward channel quality, and data acknowledgements from each MS. An MS can have an active state for data communications, for which these control channels are used at the full (time slot) rate, or a control hold state, in which acknowledgements are not needed and the others of these control channels can be shared among a plurality of MSs in the control hold state and each using a reduced rate such as ½, ¼, or ⅛ of the full rate. The arrangement can support an increased number of active MSs, facilitating an increased total throughput on the high rate data channel, without increasing system resources for the control channels.

Method and apparatus for integrated electric power generation, storage and supply distributed and networked at the same time

An electric power retention distribution cell supplies stored electrical power as the primary electric supply to an end user at predetermined times. The cell has a rechargeable battery assembly, a bi-directional inverter and a switch control, and is connected to an electric utility grid, to one or more end users and to alternate power generation sources, such as wind or solar. The battery assembly is charged from the alternate power generation source and from grid power, and the cell is switched at selected times to provide the primary electric supply from stored electric power in the cell to the end user. A circuit of the battery assembly gives an extended electric power storage time by controlling storage parameters. Networks using the electric cell are also described for a utility hub network formed using two or more cells, and for a regional utility hub network formed using multiple utility hubs.

Methods of Enabling Base Station Functionality in a User Equipment

ActiveUS20160029430A1Enhancing normal consumer-grade power characteristicBoost battery powerNetwork topologiesConnection managementUser equipmentSoftware
In this invention, we disclose methods for enabling ad hoc cellular base station functionality within a user equipment when the connection quality between a base station and the user equipment is limited or nonexistent. These methods include measuring a connection quality between a user equipment and its serving base station. If the connection quality is below a threshold, the user equipment can enable its internal ad hoc cellular base station functionality. This is done by running a software within the user equipment that (a) checks the connection quality periodically, and (b) enables ad hoc cellular base station functionality of the connection threshold dips below a certain value. In one embodiment, that threshold could be the same threshold value that a user equipment would use if it were making a decision to handoff to another base station based on poor connection quality.

Rechargeable storage battery with improved performance

The present disclosure provides an improved high watt-hour lithium ion rechargeable battery pack including a plurality of cells not comprising a multiple of eight and an electrical circuit to provide a battery pack that mimics eight cells in series. In particular, the present disclosure relates to a battery pack comprising a non-multiple of eight cells of the type typically used in a 2590 battery pack and a corresponding mechanical packing assembly. The improved electromechanical design may provide an increased capacity and reduced heat of the cells upon discharge as compared to a standard 2590 battery pack, and may also avoid an imbalance that may arise when using multiple internal battery packs. The disclosed improved battery packs require only one control circuit to provide voltage regulation as well as the protection, balancing, and fuel gauge circuit functions for all of the energy cells, leading to reductions in both complexity and cost.
