Wireless network having real-time channel allocation

A wireless network having a real-time channel allocation is described herein. In one embodiment, an exemplary network architecture includes, but is not limited to, multiple access points coupled to a wired network, where each of the access points is capable of communicating with one or more mobile nodes over a wireless network. The exemplary network architecture further includes a controller coupled to the access points over the wired network. The controller maintains one or more parameters that control one or more characteristics of each access points. The controller adjusts and communicates the one or more parameters to each of the access points in response to a detection of real-time conditions changed. Other methods and apparatuses are also described.

Thread interleaving in a multithreaded embedded processor

The present invention provides a network multithreaded processor, such as a network processor, including a thread interleaver that implements fine-grained thread decisions to avoid underutilization of instruction execution resources in spite of large communication latencies. In an upper pipeline, an instruction unit determines an instruction fetch sequence responsive to an instruction queue depth on a per thread basis. In a lower pipeline, a thread interleaver determines a thread interleave sequence responsive to thread conditions including thread latency conditions. The thread interleaver selects threads using a two-level round robin arbitration. Thread latency signals are active responsive to thread latencies such as thread stalls, cache misses, and interlocks. During the subsequent one or more clock cycles, the thread is ineligible for arbitration. In one embodiment, other thread conditions affect selection decisions such as local priority, global stalls, and late stalls.

Varistors based on nanocrystalline powders produced by mechanical grinding

The invention concerns novel varistors based on zinc oxide and a method for making same, which consists in using as base products nanocrystalline powders obtained by high-intensity mechanical grinding and in subjecting the mixture resulting from said nanocrystalline powders a consolidating treatment such as sintering, in suitably selected temperature and time conditions so as to retain the smallest possible grain size of ZnO. The resulting varistors have a very fine homogeneous microstructure and an average grain size characteristically not more than 3pm, i.e. five times smaller than standard materials. Said novel varistors have a larger number of grain boundaries per unit length unit and therefore a much higher breakdown voltage. Said voltage is characteristically higher than 10 kV / cm and can reach 17 kV / cm which is almost one order of magnitude above the breakdown voltage of standard varistors. The non-linearity coefficient of the current-voltage curve is also improved, and is greater than 20 and can reach values as high as 60. Moreover, the leakage currents below the breakdown voltage of said varistors, are much lower.

System and method for the inference of activities of daily living and instrumental activities of daily living automatically

A method and related system to, among other things, automatically infer answers to all of the ADL questions and the first four questions of the IADL in the home. The inference methods detect the relevant activities unobtrusively, continuously, accurately, objectively, quantifiably and without relying on the patient's own memory (which may be fading due to aging or an existing health condition, such as Traumatic Brain Injury (TBI)) or on a caregiver's subjective report. The methods rely on the judicious placement of a number of sensors in the subject's place of residence, including motion detection sensors in every room, the decomposition of each relevant activity into the sub-tasks involved, identification of additional sensors required to detect the relevant sub-tasks and spatial-temporal conditions between the signals of sensors to formulate the rules that will detect the occurrence of the specific activities of interest. The sensory data logged on a computing device (computer, data logger etc.), date and time stamped, is analyzed using specialist data analysis software tools that check for the applicable task / activity detection rules. The methods are particularly useful for the continued in-home assessment of subjects living alone to evaluate their progress in response to medical intervention drug or physical therapy or decline in abilities that may be the indicator of the onset of disease over time. Measuring the frequency of each activity, the time required to accomplish an activity or a subtask and the number of activities / subtasks performed continuously over time can add extremely valuable quantification extensions to the existing ADL and IADL evaluation instruments, as it will not only reveal important information setting up a baseline for activity levels for each activity, but will also easily allow the detection of any drift from these personalized norms.

System and method for enabling service providers to create real-time reverse auctions for location based services

A system and method facilitates the matching of service providers based on certain criteria such as, but not limited to, location of the provider in relation to a customer location, customer requests based on the location of the customer, the type of service requested and other possible attributes such as customer profile, customer past behavior and preferences and service price and quality. Service providers create real-time reverse auctions by using advanced data collection, filtering and disseminating algorithms. In addition, market-makers can provide value-added services, such as real-time traffic conditions and route planning, to their local affiliates. Such a scheme can allow market-makers to economically service customer requests by leveraging the real-time conditions and circumstances of their vast network of local service affiliates. Open competition will drive down prices for these services and increase revenues for the market-makers who will be able to service customer requests at the best prices available. This system will also benefit local service affiliates by notifying them and allowing them to compete for a broader number of service requests. A feedback mechanism will also encourage superior customer service since affiliates will want to ensure that they are considered for more jobs.

Automatic discovery and maintenance of business processes in web services and enterprise development environments

A method, an apparatus, and computer instructions are provided for automatic discovery and maintenance of business processes in Web services and enterprise development environments. A set of agents are deployed to a set of enterprise containers to collect user function calls and report events to a central business workflow language generator. An event handler collects the events reported and an event grouper groups the events into a single workflow activity. An event correlation engine correlates activities to business workflow language constructions by using a temporal condition handler and a collection counting handler. The temporal condition handler maps activities that are in sequence, in parallel, and are repetitive. The collection counting handler counts the number of times an event is handled. Events and Rules for these events are written on the system based on a variety of business constructs that are particular to given business process definition language. A business workflow language generator then generates a business workflow and a workflow presents the business workflow in a user interface.
