A system and method for defining and enforcing a security policy. Security mechanism application specific information for each security mechanism is encapsulated as a key and exported to a semantic layer. Keys are combined to form key chains within the semantic layer. The key chains are in turn encapsulated as keys and passed to another semantic layer. A security policy is defined by forming key chains from keys and associating users with the key chains. The security policy is translated and exported to the security mechanisms. The security policy is then enforced via the security mechanisms.

Network distributed remultiplexer for video program bearing transport streams

A method and system are provided for remultiplexing program bearing data. The remultiplexing method and system are applicable to MPEG-2 compliant transport streams carrying video programs. A descriptor based system is used for scheduling the timely output of transport packets wherein each descriptor records a dispatch time as well as a receipt time for each transport packet. The receipt time is used for estimating program clock reference adjustments, but final program clock reference adjustment is performed in hardware in relation to the precise output timing of each transport packets. A descriptor and transport packet caching technique is used for decoupling the synchronous receipt and transmission of transport packets from any asynchronous processing performed thereon. The descriptors can also be used for managing scrambling and descrambling control words (encryption and decryption keys). Remultiplexing functions may be distributed across a network. The remultiplexer can furthermore optimize the bandwidth of transport streams by replacing null transport packets with transport packet data to be inserted into the output transport stream. Program data transmitted via asynchronous communication links is re-timed and assistance is provided for outputting program data on such asynchronous communication links to reduce a variation in end-to-end delay incurred by the program data. Remultiplexing and program specific information can be searnlessly dynamically varied without stopping, or introducing a discontinuity in, the flow of outputted transport packets. A technique is also provided for locking multiple internal reference clock generators.

Encryption and content control in a digital broadcast system

A selective encryption encoder has a packet identifier that identifies packets of a specified packet type forming a part of a program. A packet duplicator duplicates the identified packets to produce first and second sets of the identified packets. A PMT (program map table) inserter generates temporary identifying information that identifies the first and second sets of identified packets inserts the temporary identifying information as user private data in a program map table (PMT) forming a part of the transport program specific information (PSI). The data are then sent to and received from a primary encryption encoder to encrypt the first set of identified packets under a first encryption method. A secondary encrypter encrypts the second set of identified packets under a second encryption method. The PSI is then modified at a PSI modifier to remove the temporary identifying information and to correctly associate the first and second sets of identified packets and the unencrypted packets with the program.

Method and apparatus for capturing and extracting content from documents on a mobile device

A mobile device captures information from a document. The mobile device selects a template stored in a memory of the mobile device. The selected template describes data content of at least one document. The mobile device then captures an image of a document, determines that the image corresponds to one document described by the selected template by verifying that at least one first region in the image corresponds to a region of the document described by the selected template, identifies at least one region in the image that corresponds with a region in the document described by the selected template, and processes information in the identified region in the image. The mobile device then aggregates application specific information from the processed information and presents the aggregated application specific information to a user program operating on the mobile device.
