1865 results about "Mobile radio" patented technology

Mobile radio or mobiles refer to wireless communications systems and devices which are based on radio frequencies(using commonly UHF or VHF frequencies), and where the path of communications is movable on either end. There are a variety of views about what constitutes mobile equipment. For US licensing purposes, mobiles may include hand-carried, (sometimes called portable), equipment. An obsolete term is radiophone.

System and method of accessing and recording messages at coordinate way points

The present invention is essentially a method and system for leaving and retrieving messages at specific coordinate way points within a commercial mobile radio service (CMRS) provider network. Users carry or transport interface devices for communicating over the network and are able to record and view messages at specific coordinate locations while traveling in the network. The location of the device is calculated by the device or by the network while the device is powered on and in within the physical boundaries of the network, or through a combination of both. Messages can be made available to network subscribers when their interface devices come within an area centered about a physical coordinate location. Personalized messages can also be left by subscribers at any coordinate point within the boundaries of the network. The invention can also be used to facilitate access of information about an asset when a technician comes within a physical proximity threshold relative to said asset.

Common radio resource management method in a multi-RAT cellular telephone network

A Common radio resource management method is performed in a mobile radio communication network employing different radio access technologies that overlap over a geographic area subdivided into cells belonging to the domains of respective controllers which are connected to each other in overlapping or adjacent domains and to a core network by means of relevant interfaces. The controllers calculate new traffic-related Information Elements to be exchanged over the existing interfaces to the aim of planning handovers and / or cell reselections towards adjacent cells either of the same or different RAT. Cell capabilities and mobile terminal capabilitiess being also specified by respective IEs. Diversely from the conventional traffic-related IEs based on Cell Load parameters or Free Capacity, the new IEs include indications of the “availability” of bearer services in the cell in terms of maximum bitrate, either guaranteed or not guaranteed, that can currently be allowed to each bearer service.

Access control system, access control method and devices suitable therefor

An access control system comprises a plurality of access control devices in each of which is stored an access code. Specific access codes and access rights for a plurality of access control devices are transmitted from an access control central unit over a mobile radio network to the mobile communication terminal of a user. Transmitted to the mobile communication terminal by an access control device to be passed is an access control device identification. In the mobile communication terminal, on the basis of the received identification, the access code and the access rights for the access control device to be passed are determined, and are transmitted to the access control device. The access control device clears the user for access if the received access rights suffice and the received access code agrees with the stored access code.

Maintaining an IP connection in a mobile network

A method for IP [=Internet Protocol] communication between a mobile terminal and its correspondent node in a mobile radio network. The method comprises establishing (2-2) an IP connection between the mobile terminal and its correspondent node. After detecting a period of inactivity in the IP connection, (2-4) keep-alive messages are sent via the IP connection at predetermined intervals, which are varied. The method comprises monitoring (2-6) the lengths of several periods of inactivity at which the mobile radio network disconnects the IP connection. Based on the monitored lengths of periods of inactivity, a maximum interval (TINT) between keep-alive messages is determined (2-8) such that the maximum interval meets a predetermined criterion of statistical confidence, and the interval between keep-alive messages is set (2-10) to the maximum interval (TINT).

This invention relates to the use and proper placement in a vehicle of a mobile wireless phone having cellular or GPS positioning capability and an impact sensor, e.g. triaxial accelerometer. Said sensor instantly detects a serious vehicular accident or theft, then and without driver or passenger intervention, automatically transmits an emergency appeal for assistance to appropriate Police / Emergency Medical Services (PEMS), or Fire Rescue units, apprizing the PEMS of said exigency and location. Otherwise, the integrated mobile phone system will function in a manner that is similar to a conventional wireless mobile phone. Optionally, the integrated mobile wireless phone may include means for receiving an emergency medical signal and automatically communicates an appeal for emergency assistance when the user having said unit and having a predisposed life threatening medical condition, encounters a life threatening anomaly, e.g., heart attack. System provides means to mitigate multi-vehicle collisions that are normally associated with environmental road hazards fog, ice, etc., by instantly alerting authorities and / or drivers in the region of the location of said hazard when an accident occurs.

Method and apparatus for remote telephony switch control

A command, such as an application specific command, is communicated from a central host to a remote station via a cellular mobile radio network. The station may be a fixed or roaming device. The central host sends the command a network switch, such as an SS7 SSP, wherein the command comprises a mobile identification number (MIN) and an electronic serial number (ESN). The network switch queries an associated HLR database to locate the remote station, the query specifying the MIN and the ESN. If the HLR does not recognize the MIN / ESN combination, it so informs the network switch, as well as the VLR associated with the MSC serving a remote station identified by the ESN. In response to the notification from the HLR, the VLR removes any entry in its database relating to the ESN and updates its database with the new MIN / ESN combination transmitted by the HLR to the VLR. The VLR confirms with the HLR that it has taken these steps and then sends the command to the remote station by calling the station using the new MIN / ESN.

Method and apparatus for location area updating in cellular communications

A connection is established between a mobile radio terminal and a radio access network serving plural geographic coverage areas. The radio access network transmits information associated with one of the geographic coverage areas indicating whether the one geographic coverage area requires a geographic coverage area update procedure. During the connection, when the mobile radio terminal considers selecting the one geographic coverage area, it determines whether to perform a geographic coverage area update procedure depending on the transmitted information associated with the one geographic coverage area. In a preferred, non-limiting application, the radio access network is shared by two operators, and the transmitted information indicates that the geographic coverage area update procedure should be performed for geographic coverage areas that are shared by the two operators and that the geographic coverage area update procedure need not be performed for geographic coverage areas that are not shared by the two operators.
