Computer, PDA or telephone lens cover

A lens cover covers a camera lens or a projection lens formed in the frame of a computer display or in the body of a personal digital assistant or mobile telephone. The cover is movable to allow the lens to operate, yet allow the cover to remain with the device. One cover pivots around a pivot point to cover or uncover the lens. Another cover hinges in order to cover or uncover the lens. Another cover slides back and forth. Another cover hangs upon a hook located above the lens. Another cover is a suction cup applied over the lens. Another cover slides back and forth hanging on the top edge of the computer display. The cover may be fixed in place using gravity, friction, a snap, hook and loop closures, suction, or a ZIPLOC-type mechanism. The cover or its attaching means may be fixed to the computer or telephone using a self adhesive.

Mobile camera localization using depth maps

Mobile camera localization using depth maps is described for robotics, immersive gaming, augmented reality and other applications. In an embodiment a mobile depth camera is tracked in an environment at the same time as a 3D model of the environment is formed using the sensed depth data. In an embodiment, when camera tracking fails, this is detected and the camera is relocalized either by using previously gathered keyframes or in other ways. In an embodiment, loop closures are detected in which the mobile camera revisits a location, by comparing features of a current depth map with the 3D model in real time. In embodiments the detected loop closures are used to improve the consistency and accuracy of the 3D model of the environment.

Image appearance based loop closure detecting method in monocular vision SLAM (simultaneous localization and mapping)

The invention discloses an image appearance based loop closure detecting method in monocular vision SLAM (simultaneous localization and mapping). The image appearance based loop closure detecting method includes acquiring images of the current scene by a monocular camera carried by a mobile robot during advancing, and extracting characteristics of bag of visual words of the images of the current scene; preprocessing the images by details of measuring similarities of the images according to inner products of image weight vectors and rejecting the current image highly similar to a previous history image; updating posterior probability in a loop closure hypothetical state by a Bayesian filter process to carry out loop closure detection so as to judge whether the current image is subjected to loop closure or not; and verifying loop closure detection results obtained in the previous step by an image reverse retrieval process. Further, in a process of establishing a visual dictionary, the quantity of clustering categories is regulated dynamically according to TSC (tightness and separation criterion) values which serve as an evaluation criterion for clustering results. Compared with the prior art, the loop closure detecting method has the advantages of high instantaneity and detection precision.

System and method for concurrent odometry and mapping

ActiveUS20170336511A1Limiting utility and effectivenessImage enhancementImage analysisOdometryVisual appearance
An electronic device tracks its motion in an environment while building a three-dimensional visual representation of the environment that is used to correct drift in the tracked motion. A motion tracking module estimates poses of the electronic device based on feature descriptors corresponding to the visual appearance of spatial features of objects in the environment. A mapping module builds a three-dimensional visual representation of the environment based on a stored plurality of maps, and feature descriptors and estimated device poses received from the motion tracking module. The mapping module provides the three-dimensional visual representation of the environment to a localization module, which identifies correspondences between stored and observed feature descriptors. The localization module performs a loop closure by minimizing the discrepancies between matching feature descriptors to compute a localized pose. The localized pose corrects drift in the estimated pose generated by the motion tracking module.

System and method for reducing fiber optic gyroscope color noise

A phase jump amplitude and timing controller is used in a fiber optic gyroscope for suppressing color noise. The phase jump amplitude and timing controller inserts a phase / voltage jump into the feedback signal of the loop closure electronics of the fiber optic gyroscope. This phase / voltage jump breaks the repeated pattern of the drive signal. The IOC time-dependent characteristics are totally eliminated by the randomized feedback signal because no repeated signal is applied to the IOC. The randomized amplitude is preferably within the full ±π phase such that the optical errors average to zero. A fixed frequency higher than the interested spectral region can shift the color noise to higher frequency. A randomized frequency can spread the color noise over full spectrum, and totally eliminate the RDS. In other words, the color noise caused by the nonlinearity of the driving circuit and IOC spreads out over a wide range of spectrum such that no distinct frequency peaks are apparent in the spectral domain.

Vision-Aided Inertial Navigation with Loop Closure

A vision-aided inertial navigation system determines navigation solutions for a traveling vehicle. A navigation solution module analyzes image sensor poses and estimated inertial navigation solutions to produce a time sequence of system navigation solution outputs that represent changing locations of the traveling vehicle. A loop closure detector performs a two-threshold image classification to classify an incoming navigation image as novel, loop-closing, or neither, and the navigation solution module resets the navigation solution output to represent a previous location when the loop closure detector classifies an incoming navigation image as loop-closing.
