Over-terminating the differential mode impedance of a differential transmission line, such as an INFINIBAND™ cable, at the receiving end, improves the differential signal integrity for typical variations in termination network impedance component (e.g., resistor) and transmission line characteristics. Eye opening of the differential signal can be made larger with reduced attenuation but increased jitter compared to under-terminating the differential mode impedance. Because the differential signal quality (larger eye opening) is improved, data can be transmitted over a longer transmission line with the same transmitter and receiver.

Some current sensing devices placed on the motor wires or inside the motor controller provide low amplitude output signals thus complicating sampling and data processing. In order to improve the signal / noise ratio, an oversampling technique is disclosed which makes used of a differential transmission of the output signal. Further, by applying intelligent sorting techniques on the sampled data, a substantial improvement in the signal / noise ratio can be obtained. The invention also concerns a motor controller using this method, and discloses the use of a power card and a control card, where the current sensing device is placed on the power card and a differential amplifier is placed on the control card. The gain of the differential amplifier is controlled by components placed on the power card as well as on the control card.

In the case where high speed differential signals are transmitted in differential transmission lines through via holes with open-stubs, signal waveforms are distorted due to impedance mismatch in the open-stubs of the via holes, thus causing jitter, which has become an issue of high speed signals.
