Document scanner, system and method

The document scanner system and method operates in conjunction with a document imprinted with data in a plurality of data image fields and a plurality of form documents adapted to have data imprinted thereon. The system output to a communications port is a delimited string of decoded characters. The method scans to obtain positional information of data fields or accepts topological form input by the operator. The operator identifies data descriptors, e.g. field size, data type, etc. The system and method scans the document imprinted with data and captures an image thereof. The scanned input document image is compared with the stored forms (particularly the stored data field descriptors, e.g., positional information, and data type). The system selects a stored form, extracts the data from each field, decodes or calculates the data, and validates the data and stores the decoded / calculated data in the output sequence.

Hashing algorithm used for multiple files having identical content and fingerprint in a peer-to-peer network

The present invention provides an improved technique for accessing information in a peer-to-peer network. According to specific embodiments of the present invention, each file accessible in the peer-to-peer network is assigned a respective hash ID or fingerprint ID which is used to describe the contents of that file. Files in the peer-to-peer network may be identified and / or accessed based upon their associated hash ID values. In this way it is possible to identify identical files stored in the peer-to-peer network which have different file names and / or other metadata descriptors. Since the content of all files having the same hash ID will be identical, an automated process may be used to retrieve the desired content from one or more of the identified files.

Method and System for Migrating Virtual Machines Between Hypervisors

A method for migrating virtual machines between hypervisors is disclosed. Initially, metadata describing a virtual machine are automatically scanned and parsed. The structure of the metadata of a source virtual machine are automatically analyzed. Elements of this structure are mapped to corresponding entries of a target virtual machine. A target metadata descriptor to be used as part of the target virtual machine is generated. A predefined layout description of the data stored in a file system image of the source virtual machine read. A predefined layout description of the data to be stored in a file system image to be used at the target virtual machine is also read. The data are extracted from the source virtual machine. A template of a file system image for the target virtual system is generated. Storage space corresponding to the target virtual machine is allocated, and the extracted data are inserted into the allocated storage space.

Packet buffer apparatus and method

In managing and buffering packet data for transmission out of a host, descriptor ring data is pushed in from a host memory into a descriptor ring cache and cached therein. The descriptor ring data is processed to read a data packet descriptor, and a direct memory access is initiated to the host to read the data packet corresponding to the read data packet descriptor to a data transmission buffer. The data packet is written by the direct memory access into the data transmission buffer and cached therein. A return pointer is written to the host memory by the direct memory access indicating that the data packet descriptor has been read and the corresponding data packet has been transmitted. In managing and buffering packet data for transmission to a host, descriptor ring data is pushed in from a host memory into a descriptor ring cache and cached therein. Data packets for transmission to the host memory are received and cached in a data reception buffer. Data is read from the data reception buffer according to a data packet descriptor retrieved from the descriptor ring cache, and the data packet is written to a data reception queue within the host memory by a direct memory access. A return pointer is written to the host memory by the direct memory access indicating that the data packet has been written.

Meta-descriptor for multimedia information

Multimedia information retrieval is performed using meta-descriptors in addition to descriptors. A “descriptor” is a representation of a feature, a “feature” being a distinctive characteristic of multimedia information, while a “meta-descriptor” is information about the descriptor. Meta-descriptors are generated for multimedia information in a repository (10, 12, 14, 16, 18, 20, 22, 24) by extracting the descriptors from the multimedia information (111), clustering the multimedia information based on the descriptors (112), assigning meta-descriptors to each cluster (113), and attaching the meta-descriptors to the multimedia information in the repository (114). The multimedia repository is queried by formulating a query using query-by-example (131), acquiring the descriptor / s and meta-descriptor / s for a repository multimedia item (132), generating a query descriptor / s if none of the same type has been previously generated (133, 134), comparing the descriptors of the repository multimedia item and the query multimedia item (135), and ranking and displaying the results (136, 137).

Autonomous mapping of protected data streams to Fibre channel frames

InactiveUS20080307122A1Minimize involvementPerform other taskTransmissionElectric digital data processingData streamFibre Channel
A hardware-based offload engine is disclosed for mapping protected data into frames. For a write operation, the HBA determines host addresses and the size of data to be read from those addresses. The HBA also determines the frame size and protection scheme for data to be written. A frame transmit engine reads each host descriptor in the host data descriptor list to determine the location and byte count of the data to be read. A DMA engine reads the protection information / scratch area to determine the exact data size used to fill each frame and the protection scheme, and retrieves one or more free frame buffers. Check bytes are inserted alongside the data and stored in free frame buffers. After each frame is filled, the frame transmit engine also generates and stores header information for that frame, and then combines header, data and check bytes for transmission over the network.

Multi-processing financial transaction processing system

A financial transaction processing system is disclosed, wherein substantial processing efficiencies are provided with, additionally, a substantial decrease in the size of the executable code. Each transaction processed by the transaction processing system is described by a transaction data descriptor that includes a series of subtransaction data descriptions of actions that can be performed independently of one another. Thus, complex transaction processing logic is substantially removed from the executable code, and instead such transaction data descriptors are processed interpretatively. Moreover, the independence of the subtransactions allows the subtransactions of a transaction to be processed in parallel when performed on a multiprocessor computer. Additionally, the transaction processing system provides account balancing enhancements in that there are control columns in various data tables that are automatically updated during transaction processing so that by comparing control column totals, an indication of the integrity of current financial records is provided. Additionally, the transaction processing system provides full auditability in that any changes to financial data can be traced for any effective period of time into the past so that auditors can periodically perform a full audit of the financial transaction data retained by the transaction processing system.
