Surface light source device, display device having the same, and method of controlling the display device

A surface light source includes a discharge tube, a power source, and a surface light source control part. The discharge tube includes a plurality of lighting areas. Each lighting area has a discharge electrode part. The power source applies electric power to the discharge electrode parts. The surface light source control part separately controls brightness of each lighting area by separately controlling electric power levels applied to the discharge electrode part of each lighting area, respectively. Therefore, relatively high contrasts and relatively low power consumption are obtained.

Liquid crystal display device

A liquid crystal display device includes a first substrate, a second substrate, a first vertical electrode, a second vertical electrode, a first pixel electrode, a first counter electrode, and a liquid crystal layer. The second substrate is disposed to be opposite to the first substrate, the liquid crystal layer is interposed between the first and second substrates. The liquid crystal layer includes polymer stabilized positive blue phase liquid crystal. The first vertical electrode is at an inner side of the first substrate, and faces the second substrate. The second vertical electrode is at an inner side surface of the second substrate and faces the first vertical electrode. The second vertical electrode and the first vertical electrode have different electrical potentials thus form a vertical electric field perpendicular to the first substrate and the second substrate. The first pixel electrode is at the inner side of the first substrate and faces the second substrate. The first counter electrode is at an inner side of the first substrate. The first pixel electrode and the first counter electrode have different electrical potentials. The first pixel electrode and the first counter electrode provide a horizontal electric field parallel to the first substrate and the second substrate.

Liquid crystal display device and method for driving the same

According to the present invention, common electrode lines each making a pair with scanning line are provided and a potential of the common electrode line is alternately changed between two predetermined values to make amplitude in potential of pixel electrode larger than that of image signals thereby decreasing the amplitude of image signals. The present invention also realizes a signal source low in price and further in power-consumption therefor, thereby realizing small-sized and low-priced liquid crystal display devices suitable for portable apparatus.

Organic light-emitting display device

An organic light emitting display device including: a substrate having a pixel region and a non-pixel region; a first buffer layer and a second buffer layer formed over the substrate; a thin film transistor formed over the second buffer layer; an organic light emitting device formed in the pixel region and electrically connected with the thin film transistor; and a photo diode formed in the non-pixel region, for receiving external light of red wavelength at a certain absorption rate, and for controlling brightness of the organic light emitting device. Here, the first buffer layer can be formed to be from 2900 Å to 3100 Å in thickness, the second buffer layer can be formed to be from 200 Å to 400 Å in thickness, and the photo diode can include: an N-type doping region, a channel region being from 3 to 10 μm in width, and a P-type doping region.
