Fabrication of long range periodic nanostructures in transparent or semitransparent dielectrics

To make high quality long-range periodic nanostructures in a transparent or semi-transparent substrate, the transparent or semi-transparent substrate is scanned with a linearly polarized laser beam generated by a femtosecond laser and exceeding a predetermined energy / pulse threshold along a scanning path. Sub-diffraction limit structures are formed as periodic planes of modified material in the transparent or semi-transparent substrate extending along the scanning path. The modified material can then be chemically etched to form cavities.

Ultrasound 3D imaging system

The present invention relates to an ultrasound imaging system in which the scan head includes a beamformer circuit that performs far field subarray beamforming or includes a sparse array selecting circuit that actuates selected elements. When using a hierarchical two-stage or three-stage beamforming system, three dimensional ultrasound images can be generated in real-time. The invention further relates to flexible printed circuit boards in the probe head. The invention furthermore relates to the use of coded or spread spectrum signalling in ultrasound imaging systems. Matched filters based on pulse compression using Golay code pairs improve the signal-to-noise ratio thus enabling third harmonic imaging with suppressed sidelobes. The system is suitable for 3D full volume cardiac imaging.

Liquid crystal display device

A LCD device includes first and second LCD panels stacked one on another. Each of the first and second LCD panels includes a pair of transparent substrates, a liquid crystal layer sandwiched therebetween, and a pair of polarizing films sandwiching therebetween the pair of transparent substrates. A light diffusion layer having light diffusion function is interposed between the first LCD panel and the second LCD panel. The light diffusion layer reduces the intensity of the light passed by the first LCD panel, thereby alleviating the periodicity of the arrangement of dark areas and bright areas to alleviate the moire caused by light interference.

Method of packet data transmission

A method of transmitting data packets using a staggered transmission technique by which some transmissions of data packets may be delayed to reduce periodicity inherently caused by synchronous retransmission schemes. The amount of delay should be minimal in order to not adversely effect applications with tight latency constraints, such as Voice over Internet Protocol (VoIP). The delay may be applied to initial transmissions or retransmissions of data packets.

Optical element, and illuminating optical device, display device and electronic device using the same

A microlouver includes a periodic structure in which a transparent layer and a light absorption layer are alternately disposed with a constant, repetitive period. The range of the exit direction of a light beam passing through the transparent layer is restricted by the light absorption layer. The periodic structure includes a periodic structure portion divided in the direction that intersects the direction in which the transparent layer and the light absorption layer are repeatedly disposed. In the periodic structure portion, between the periodic structures adjacent to each other, there is a difference of 180 degree in the phase of spatial frequency of each periodic structure.

Beam control method based on frequency diversity array antenna

The invention provides a beam control method based on a frequency diversity array antenna. The method comprises the steps of establishing a random frequency offset antenna array transmission signal model by setting a transmission frequency offset of each antenna array element transmission signal in the antenna array to be distributed uniformly; according to spatial position information of a desired target, calculating a received signal model at the desired target spatial position; calculating a weight coefficient of each antenna element in the antenna array according to the received signal model; and controlling the transmission of each antenna array element transmission signal according to the weight coefficient of each antenna element to form a beam. The method sets the frequency offsetsto be distributed uniformly based on the traditional frequency diversity antenna, and can effectively eliminate the periodicity in the distance dimension during the beam transmission process of the antenna array elements, thereby enhancing the signal receiving power at the target.
