Imaging apparatus, is provided, comprising a first device, for obtaining a first image, by a first modality, selected from the group consisting of SPECT, PET, CT, an extracorporeal gamma scan, an extracorporeal beta scan, x-rays, an intracorporeal gamma scan, an intracorporeal beta scan, an intravascular gamma scan, an intravascular beta scan, and a combination thereof, and a second device, for obtaining a second, structural image, by a second modality, selected from the group consisting of a three-dimensional ultrasound, an MRI operative by an internal magnetic field, an extracorporeal ultrasound, an extracorporeal MRI operative by an external magnetic field, an intracorporeal ultrasound, an intracorporeal MRI operative by an external magnetic field, an intravascular ultrasound, and a combination thereof, and wherein the apparatus further includes a computerized system, configured to construct an attenuation map, for the first image, based on the second, structural image. Additionally, the computerized system is configured to display an attenuation-corrected first image as well as a superposition of the attenuation-corrected first image and the second, structural image. Furthermore, the apparatus is operative to guide an in-vivo instrument based on the superposition.

A system and method for performing a biopsy of a target volume and a computing device for planning the same are provided. A three-dimensional ultrasound transducer captures ultrasound volume data from the target volume. A three-dimensional registration module registers the ultrasound volume data with supplementary volume data related to the target volume. A biopsy planning module processes the ultrasound volume data and the supplementary volume data in combination in order to develop a biopsy plan for the target volume. A biopsy needle biopsies the target volume in accordance with the biopsy plan.

Feature Tracking Using Ultrasound

Various implementations of the invention provide techniques and supporting systems that facilitate real-time or near-real-time ultrasound tracking for the purpose of calculating changes in anatomical features during a medical procedure. More specifically, anatomical features within a patient undergoing a medical procedure are tracked by obtaining temporally-distinct three dimensional ultrasound images that include the feature of interest and obtaining a targeted subset of ultrasound images focused on the feature. Based on the targeted subset of ultrasound images, a displacement of the feature is determined and image parameters used to obtain the targeted subset of ultrasound images are adjusted based on the displacement. This results in a time-based sequence of three dimensional images and targeted ultrasound images of the feature that identify changes in the position, size, location, and / or shape of the feature.

The invention discloses a three-dimensional ultrasound elliptical vibration assisted cutting device and an elliptical orbit generation method thereof, and belongs to the field of numerical control machining. The device is composed of a multi-shaft flexible hinge, a base, a cutter pre-tightening screw, a connecting screw and a pedestal as well as piezoelectric ceramic plates, electrode plates, double-nut structures, connecting shafts and vibration frequency trimmers in the X direction, the Y direction and the Z direction. The multi-shaft flexible hinge is composed of three subchains perpendicular to one another and a cutter mounting frame. Each subchain is provided with a first flexible hinge unit and a second flexible hinge unit which are of the same structure and different in arrangement direction. A cutter is fixed to the cutter mounting frame. Displacement inputs are generated on all the subchains through the piezoelectric ceramic plates in the X direction, the Y direction and the Z direction, and after displacement amplification and superposition in the three directions, the multi-shaft flexible hinge is driven to generate an elliptical motion orbit in a three-dimensional space at the point of the cutter. The device is simple in structure, the inputs are mutually decoupled, the three-dimensional elliptical motion orbit is generated easily, and the device can be conveniently and directly integrated with a numerically-controlled machine tool for assisted precision machining.
