System and method for variable beacon timing with wireless devices

Systems and methods for supporting variable beacon timing for a first wireless device and a second wireless device are provided. An exemplary system may include a number of wireless devices configured to wirelessly communicate with one another. The system includes a beacon-transmitting wireless device and a listening wireless device. The beacon-transmitting wireless device is configured to transmit, during a first operating mode, wireless beacons separated in time by relatively long time intervals. The beacon-transmitting device is also configured to transmit, during a second operating mode, wireless beacons separated in time by relatively short time intervals. The listening wireless device is configured to listen, during the first operating mode, for wireless beacons transmitted by the beacon-transmitting wireless device, and is configured to listen, during the second operating mode, for wireless beacons transmitted by the beacon-transmitting wireless device. The system may have more than two different operating modes, which may be desirable if the number of wireless devices in the system exceeds two.

System and method for preserving battery life for a mobile station

A mobile station capable of accessing a wireless communication network having a plurality of base stations is provided. The mobile station is configured to determine if a battery level of the mobile station is below a selected one of a plurality of power level thresholds. The mobile station is also configured to, upon a determination that the battery level is below the selected power level threshold, send a battery report to a first base station of the wireless communication network. The mobile station is further configured to enter a battery power preservation mode. The battery power preservation mode may include an enhanced idle mode, an enhanced sleep mode, or a persistent allocation mode.

Techniques to support multiple radio-access technologies

Techniques to permit scheduling of mixed radio access technologies. In some cases, a first radio access technology mode of a base station is scheduled during a first time region and a second radio access technology mode of a base station is scheduled during a sleep mode of the first radio access technology mode. In some cases, a first radio access technology mode of a base station is scheduled during a first time region and a second radio access technology mode of a base station is scheduled during an unused portion of the first time region. In some cases, a femto-base station is scheduled to snoop for local mobile stations during a sleep mode. Inactive regions of mobile stations are scheduled during a portion of sleep modes of the radio access technology modes.

Power-saving method and electrical device using the same

A power-saving method for an electronic device is provided. The electrical device has a power-saving mode. The method includes detecting a position of the electronic device, and activating the power-saving mode if the detected position is determined to be one of a plurality of pre-determined power-saving positions. A system for performing the method is also provided. The system includes a detection unit for detecting the position of the mobile device, and an operational mode control unit coupled in signal communication with the detection unit. The control unit controls the mobile device to enter one of a power-saving mode and a wake-up mode based on the signals received from the detection unit.

Dual phase locked loop (PLL) architecture for multi-mode operation in communication systems

The clock generating portion of a communication system includes a low-power, high-jitter phase locked loop (PLL) and a high-power, low-jitter PLL. Control logic within the chip allows for selective switching between the low-power and high-power PLL for receiving the broadcast signals, such as mobile TV signals. The switching may occur in a manner that is dependent on the conditions of the wireless channel and / or the complexity of the modulation scheme being used. The switching may be used to provide an oscillating signal from one or both of the PLLs to a receiver to be used to receive communication signals. The control logic may power off one of the PLLs to save power when not in use.
