Systems and methods for aerial dispersion of materials

Aerial dispersion systems that may be employed to allow rapid and temporary conversion of aircraft for aerial dispersion purposes, such as aerial fire-fighting. The aerial dispersion systems may be implemented using modular components that may be configured for compatibility with conventional cargo loading and unloading systems of modern aircraft, including side-loading cargo systems of wide body passenger and cargo aircraft having high lift capacities. The aerial dispersion systems may be rapidly installed in a large fleet of high capacity aircraft in response to a wildfire or other rapidly-developing emergency such as an oil spill, chemical or biological contamination incident, building or refinery fire, etc. After use, the aircraft of the fleet may be rapidly de-modified and returned to original condition. The aerial dispersion systems may be operated with a fleet of aircraft in a coordinated manner, for example, as part of an aerial firefighting formation having multiple aircraft sharing information and / or common control.

Method and Apparatus for Wildfire Extinguishing

A large size fire blanket folded in one pack is provided and delivered to the area of wild fire over the air by manned or unmanned aircrafts. Being deployed over the air to the wild fire area, the fire blanket attached to aircrafts is unfolding above the fire by stretching it out with aircrafts slowly moving apart until fire blanket is fully unfolded. After that the aircrafts starts simultaneous landing and covering with fire blanket the affected area. In result the fire blanket cuts off oxygen flow to the fire area and extinguish fire therefore. To prevent “hot air balloon” effect, the fire blanket has multiple perforations equally spread along the surface.

Air blower for extinguishing fires and method for extinguishing fires

The invention employs a blower of the type used by commercial landscapers. The device has an engine mounted on a frame. Shoulder straps attached to the frame allow the user to wear the device on his back leaving the hands of the operator free to operate other tools such as a chain saw or perform other tasks. Also, wearing the device on the back makes it easier to transport the device over long distances to the source of the fire or backfire to be started. The device's blower generates a stream of air at high speeds. This stream of air can be used to feed a fire when the air is directed at a fire. When used to extinguish a fire, air from the blower is tapped from a point 180 degrees removed from the blower output and mixed with exhaust from the engine. This mixture is diverted through a Y-shaped valve into the airstream coming out of the blower. When the device is used to start backfires a fire is started. The airstream, without the mixture of air and engine exhaust can be used to both encourage the propagation of the fire and direct the fire towards the main wild fire. The ability to quickly spread the backfire in the proper direction is imperative because a sudden change in wind direction or other weather conditions could cause the backfire to become as big a problem as the original fire.

A collapsible wild fire fighting water bucket made from pliable material and suspended from an aircraft to be lowered into an open body of water for filling. A weighted Rim Opening Device holds the bucket top open for filling and facilitates a tipping over action during filling. The buckets open top being free of any centrally located supports. The bucket is equipped with a tubular extension which forms a discharge port for dumping water. The tubular extension being releasably supported under water inside the bucket under tension. Purse lines running through openings in the tubular extension and resilient sealing lips bring sealing lips into abutment sealing the discharge port of the tubular extension.Suspension lines suspend the bucket from the aircraft and a releasable support, releasably supports the free end of the tubular extension within the bucket body extending upwardly from the openings to close the discharge port. The releasable support cooperates with the openings to allow the tubular extension to be rapidly lowered so as to extend downwardly from the bottom to open the discharge port for dumping the water. The purse lines cooperate with the releasable support to lift and lower the tubular extension. The buckets also are equipped with emergency extractor Jump Seats, secured to the inside wall of the bucket to be used for dire straits emergency extraction of wild fire ground crews trapped by fire storm.

Wildfire discovery, monitoring, and response system using personal vehicles

A distributed system detects and tracks wildfires using a fleet of automobiles as remote sensing systems. An individual vehicles includes a plurality of sensing subsystems each collecting and evaluating a respective environmental parameter for various autonomous functions such as collision avoidance, lane-keeping, and climate control. Each sensing subsystem analyzes a respective environmental parameter to detect a respective fire-related trigger.
