Collation is the assembly of written information into a standard order. Many systems of collation are based on numerical order or alphabetical order, or extensions and combinations thereof. Collation is a fundamental element of most office filing systems, library catalogs, and reference books.

Dynamic Interactive Shopping Cart for e-Commerce

A shopping cart utility for e-commerce has a first workspace for retrieving and storing electronic catalog items; a second workspace for receiving specific ones or combinations of the catalog items; and a device display mechanism for displaying the items and associated item information in one of a thumbnail, collage, or list view. A user may reorder and reposition items in the collage view and wherein the first and second workspaces are functionally integrated.

Method and system of weighted context feedback for result improvement in information retrieval

A method and a system for re-ranking an existing result set of documents. A user starts a search by entering search term(s). The search term(s) is (are) transferred to a search engine which generates a result set ranked by the search term(s). The search engine, in parallel, automatically retrieves context information from returned result set which is related to the original set of documents. The search engine presents the context information to the user and asks for a feedback. The user performs a weighting of the presented context information in a range from “important” to “non-important”. The result set is then re-ranked with the user-weighted context information to increase the “rank distance” of important and non important documents. The documents that are on top of the list (highest context-weighted ranking value) represent the desired information.

Method for interactively creating an information database including preferred information elements, such as, preferred-authority, world wide web pages

A method for cataloging, filtering and ranking information; as for example, World Wide Web pages of the Internet. The method is preferably implemented in computer software and features steps for enabling a user to interactively create an information database including preferred information elements such as preferred-authority World Wide Web pages. The method including steps for enabling a user to interactively creating a frame-based, hierarchical organizational structure for the information elements, and steps for identifying and automatically filtering and ranking by relevance, information elements, such as World Wide Web pages for populating the structure, to form; for example, a searchable, World Wide Web page database. Additionally, the method featuring steps for enabling a user to interactively define a frame-based, hierarchical information structure for cataloging information, identify a preliminary population of information elements for a particular hierarchical category arranged as a frame, based upon the respective frame attributes, and thereafter, expand the information population to include related information, and subsequently, automatically filter and rank the information based upon relevance, and then populate the hierarchical structure with the a definable portion of the filtered, upper-ranked information elements.

System and method for near and exact de-duplication of documents

A system, method and computer program product for identifying near and exact-duplicate documents in a document collection, including for each document in the collection, reading textual content from the document; filtering the textual content based on user settings; determining N most frequent words from the filtered textual content of the document; performing a quorum search of the N most frequent words in the document with a threshold M; and sorting results from the quorum search based on relevancy. Based on the values of N and M near and exact-duplicate documents are identified in the document collection.

Doubly Ranked Information Retrieval and Area Search

In a search system, document terms are weighted as a function of prevalence in a data set, the documents are scored as a function of prevalence and weight of the document terms contained therein, and then independently, the documents are ranked for a given search as a function of (a) their corresponding document scores and (b) the closeness of the search terms and the document terms. The steps can all be accomplished using matrices. Subsets of the documents can be identified with various collections, and each of the collections can be assigned a matrix signature. The signatures can then be compared against terms in the search query to determine which of the subsets would be most useful for a given search.
