356 results about "Bookmarking" patented technology

Bookmarking (also "gene bookmarking" or "mitotic bookmarking") refers to a potential mechanism of transmission of gene expression programs through cell division. During mitosis, gene transcription is silenced and most transcription factors are removed from chromatin. The term bookmarking compares transcription to reading from a book. The pause in transcription during mitosis is like closing the book. "Molecular bookmarks" are the factors that allow transcription to resume in an orderly fashion in newborn cells following mitosis (when the book is re-opened).

Multimedia program bookmarking system

A multimedia program bookmarking system provides a bookmark function that allows the user to bookmark a program where he left off. The invention records the frame of the program where the user stopped when the user commands the system to do so. Alternatively, the invention automatically bookmarks the program for the user if the user exits viewing the program. The invention displays an indicator indicating that a bookmark has been saved and the user can, at any time, access his bookmark and continue playback of the program from where he left off. Bookmarks within a single program can be set for different users. Remote controls are encoded for a specific user in a household, allowing each person in the household to have a personal remote control and therefore, personal bookmarks. The invention notes that a set of bookmarks belongs to a certain encoded remote control. The user can alternatively select a specific set of bookmarks manually, through a menu. The system loads the associated bookmark information for the user and any bookmarks that do not have associated programs stored on the storage device are ignored and deleted, otherwise programs are played backed starting from the associated bookmarks, if they exist. Multiple bookmarks for a program are transparent to the user because the remote control that the user uses tells the system to only display and activate that particular user's bookmarks.

Usability enhancements for bookmarks of browsers

Bookmarks can reference uniquely addressed Web resources. Bookmark annotations can include user specified, digital content related to uniquely addressed Web resources. An user interface of an annotative bookmark manager can permit users to create, edit, and delete bookmark annotations. A browser interface of a Web browser can include a bookmark section that displays a listing of textual descriptors for bookmarks. An annotation handler can present one of the bookmark annotations within the browser user interface responsive to a detection of a mouseover event for a corresponding textual descriptor. The bookmark annotation can be automatically hidden when the mouseover event ends. Bookmark prioritization enables listing of highly weighted parameterized bookmarks in a user friendly manner.

Probabilistic web link viability marker and web page ratings

Hypertext information links are typically contained in documents accessible by networks. Data is gathered regarding the results of attempted access to documents identified by these links. The link's viability is calculated based on the number of successful attempts resulting in successful access in order to provide a measure of link viability. The display of the document is altered based on the measure of link viability. An average of link viability for all links on the document, and on the site, is used to calculate document viability and site viability which can be used to rate the document and site, respectively. These viability measures are displayed along with the corresponding link, document, and site. Display of results retrieved by conventional search engines may be sorted based on link, document or site viability, and displayed accordingly. Links contained in bookmark lists are also measured for viability to cull out bookmarks with low link viability to, or low document viability of, the bookmarked document. Viability calculations may be made by a user computer device, an Internet Service Provider, a third party service, and / or a server on which a document resides.

Automatic one-click bookmarks and bookmark headings for user-generated videos

A system and method are disclosed for processing a video item to automatically provide or recommend bookmarks and bookmark headings for the video item. In one embodiment, the video item is first logically segmented into a number of segments. For each segment of the video item, a bookmark linking to a start of the segment of the video item is generated. In addition, audio and / or video content of each segment of the video item is processed in order to generate one or more recommended headings, or titles, for the corresponding bookmark. Information identifying the recommended bookmarks and bookmark headings may then be returned to an owner of the video item. The owner may then provide user input accepting, modifying, or rejecting the bookmarks and bookmark headings. Based on the user input from the owner, the bookmarks and bookmark headings for the video item are finalized and stored.

Content tracking for movie segment bookmarks

Several ways are provided for a viewer of a movie to create a deep tag, that is, a bookmark for a segment of the movie. The deep tag can be associated with descriptive text and sent to an address provided by the viewer, either an e-mail address or an instant messaging address. Additionally, before the deep tag is created, it can be checked whether the content owner of the movie is known. If known, the content owner's rules, if any, regarding deep tagging are followed. Annotation migration

Some embodiments provide a content processing application with a novel annotation migration operation that allows the application to automatically migrate annotations from a first version of content such as a document to a second version of the content. Examples of such annotations include user-specified notes, highlights, bookmarks, and / or other annotations. The content processing application examines different sets of content segments in the second version to identify a particular set of content segments that matches a first set of content segments in the first version associated with a particular annotation. Upon identifying a matching particular set of content segments, the content processing application associates the particular annotation with the particular set of content segments in the second version. The content processing application can then provide a presentation of the second version with the particular annotation for the matching particular set of content segments.

Web application code decoupling and user interaction performance

An improved web browser architecture for an OOP application for a dynamic web page using a client-side scripting language in JavaScript and Ajax to encapsulate presentation logic as objects manipulated by a mediator class state controller object. The browser code is divided into reusable but decoupled and interacting objects. The objects publish to unknown subscribers, and there is no need for objects to explicitly know of or be bound to other objects subscribing to events, consistent with a delegate model. The state of the web browser can be maintained by the state controller, and bookmarking of the state of the web browser allows reconstruction of a web browser dynamic web page. In a preferred embodiment, a GUI for the web browser controls a SAN.
