System and method for single-action energy resource scheduling and participation in energy-related securities

A system for single-action energy resource scheduling and participation in energy-related securities, comprising a communications interface executing on a network-connected server and adapted to receive information from a plurality of client user interfaces and a secure action server coupled to the communications interface, wherein the secure action server, on receiving a connection from a client user interface, assigns a unique client identifier to the client user interface and associates the unique identifier with a client account, and wherein the secure action server, on receiving a request from a client user interface, determines whether the client user interface is mapped to an authorized market participant who has enabled single-action scheduling, execution order, or participation confirmation functionality for the client user interface, and passes information to the client user interface pertaining at least to a single action needed to confirm scheduling, execution order, or participation and wherein the secure action server, on receiving indication from the communications interface that a required single action has been taken, at least updates information about the market participant who took the action, is disclosed.

Searching and reference checking within social networks

A computer-implemented method for identifying a potential reference is disclosed. In one embodiment, a user interface (UI) object (e.g., a one-click reference search button) is provided, for example, on a web page displayed at a user's client device. When selected, the UI object causes a reference search query to be generated. The search query identifies the user performing the search, and a target person for whom the user would like a reference. The search query is communicated to, and processed by, a social networking system (e.g., through an API function call). In turn, the social networking system returns information about potential references to the client.

Method and apparatus for choosing a stock portfolio, based on patent indicators

A portfolio selector technique is described for selecting publicly traded companies to include in a stock market portfolio. The technique is based on a technology score derived from the patent indicators of a set of technology companies with significant patent portfolios. Typical patent indicators may include citation indicators that measure the impact of patented technology on later technology, Technology Cycle Time that measures the speed of innovation of companies, and science linkage that measures leading edge tendencies of companies. Patent indicators measure the effect of quality technology on the company's future performance. The selector technique creates a scoring equation that weights each indicator such that the companies can be scored and ranked based on a combination of patent indicators. The score is then used to select the top ranked companies for inclusion in a stock portfolio. After a fixed period of time, as new patents are issued, the scores are recomputed such that the companies can be re-ranked and the portfolio adjusted to include new companies with higher scores and to eliminate companies in the current portfolio which have dropped in score. A portfolio of the top 10-25 companies using this method and a relatively simple scoring equation has been shown to greatly exceed the S&P 500 and other indexes in price gain over a ten year period.

System for tracking suspicious vehicular activity

A system for monitoring and tracking vehicles in parking locations, public roadways and highway entrances and exits and other public vehicle access areas is provided, such as to monitor and track vehicles in parking spaces, public roadways and highways without the need for parking or traffic personnel. The system includes a meter system that generates image data of a vehicle in a parking space, public roadway and highway entrances and exits such as by creating an array of pixel data in a predetermined field of view that includes a vehicle identification tag and facial imaging. An enforcement and tracking system receives the image data and generates a vehicle license number, vehicle tag identification number and facial image from the image data, such as by analyzing the image data to identify the vehicle license number, vehicle tag identification number and facial image based on the expected location of the license tag, identification tag and field of view image data characteristics of the license tag, facial image or other suitable data. From the image data acquired, monitoring of parking spaces is performed and violation citations or notices are generated for errant vehicles in parking locations as well as notification to law enforcement and homeland security agencies of vehicles and facial images identified as being on a watch list.

Copy and paste with citation attributes

A command to copy or cut selected data from a source file is received. In response to receiving the command to copy or cut the data, citation information associated with the data is automatically collected. The data and the citation information are then copied into a copy buffer. A command to insert the data into a destination file is received. In response to receiving the command to insert, the data and its associated citation information is automatically transferred from the copy buffer into the destination file. In one aspect, at least a portion of the citation information is displayed as a reference associated with the inserted data within the destination file.

System and method for searching and displaying text-based information contained within documents on a database

This invention provides a system method for search and displaying text-based documents, based upon user-input search terms that organizes and displays documentary search results in a series of clusters of documents that have been sorted in a manner that relates to the general relevance of those documents to the search terms. In particular, this system and method allows for the searching of large databases of related documents by utilizing citations between those documents to improve search efficiency as well as visualization of search results. The document databases (DD) are used to generate a document connectivity index (DCI), of which a copy is stored on (or remotely accessed by) the client computer. The client issues a search request to a DD server, which returns a list of matching documents. The client compares this list against the DCI to generate a sorted list of document clusters. Using a graphical interface, the user can view and navigate these clusters to identify and view documents of interest. The clusters can be displayed as nodes in which each document is a node and the selected (or, by default, highest ranking) document/node is centered on the screen with linked documents placed around it with appropriate link lines (the surrounding node-and-link display). Each node can be activated to re-centered the nod-and-link display and show the underlying document text body.

Vehicle tailgating detection system

Vehicle tailgating detection system comprising an unmarked police vehicle having a back end, a camera, still or video, installed on the police vehicle facing rearwards for acquiring and recording visual identification information about the tailgating vehicle during the tailgating incident, and a proximity sensor installed on the police vehicle to determine and transmit information about the distance between the unmarked police vehicle and the tailgating vehicle. Also included is a data processing computer for recording and processing identifying information about the tailgating vehicle, information about the distance between the vehicles and the speed of the vehicles, and information about the location, date and time of the tailgating incident. A global positioning navigation device for acquiring and recording information about the location coordinates of the vehicles during the tailgating incident and means to print a report with details about the tailgating incident from which a moving violation citation may be issued are also provided.
