160 results about "Aquastat" patented technology

An aquastat is a device used in hydronic heating systems for controlling water temperature. To prevent the boiler from firing too often, aquastats have a high limit temperature and a low limit. If the thermostat is calling for heat, the boiler will fire until the high limit is reached, then shut off (even if the thermostat is still calling for heat). The boiler will re-fire if the boiler water temperature drops below a range around the high limit. The high limit exists for the sake of efficiency and safety. The boiler will also fire (regardless of thermostat state) when the boiler water temperature goes below a range around the low limit, ensuring that the boiler water temperature remains above a certain point. The low limit is intended for tankless domestic hot water---it ensures that boiler water is always warm enough to heat the domestic hot water. Many aquastats also have a differential ("diff") control which determines the size of the range around the "low" and/or "high" controls.

System and method for reducing energy consumption by a water heater and thermostat for use therewith

The system of the present invention provides energy saving control for a water heater via an intelligent thermostat. This intelligent thermostat provides programmatic control over the HVAC system as is conventional, and provides coordinated control over the water heater temperature set point. This control over the water heater is accomplished via a communications network between the intelligent thermostat and the water heater. In one embodiment the communications are wireless, although wired and network bus communications may also be utilized. Enhanced and coordinated control is also provided so that different operational temperature cycles can be provided to coordinate with the intelligent thermostat's programmatic control of the HVAC system. Separate programmatic control of the water heater is also provided whereby different operational temperature modes may be commanded, e.g. Wake, Sleep, and Demand modes of operation.

Cooling systems

A cooling system for a vehicle having an internal combustion engine permits rapid warm-up of the engine by the use of two electrically-operated valves in addition to a conventional thermostat. A bypass valve and a heater valve both remain closed at low coolant temperatures and engine speeds, thereby inhibiting coolant flow through the engine. A control unit opens the bypass valve to prevent cavitation in the water pump if engine speed and / or load exceeds a certain value. The heater valve is opened when a threshold engine coolant temperature is reached permitting warming of the heater matrix.

Thermostat

A thermostat (10) includes a housing (11) having a control panel (13) with a plurality of manually selectable input elements or input keys (15) and a display panel (17) for displaying various functions of the programmable thermostat. The programmable thermostat also includes a temperature sensor (18), a microprocessor (19) having memory for storing a default program set of default temperature and time values and a desired program set of desired temperature and time values. The microprocessor may compare the desired program set to the default program set in order to calculate the efficiency of a HVAC system. The calculated efficiency is then displayed graphically on the display panel.

Water heater control

A system and method of using a set-back or programmable thermostat for heating or cooling systems to also controlling a fast-recovery water heater such as a power-vented fossil fuel powered water heater such that the water heater is disabled during a set-back mode of the thermostat. The system sends a control signal to a relay module adjacent to the water heater, into which the water heater electrical power cord can be plugged into. The interlock mechanism of the water heater prevents operation of the water heater when power to the water heater is interrupted.

Vacuum low-temperature thermostat

The invention provides a vacuum low-temperature thermostat, which comprises a vacuum chamber for maintaining a vacuum state, a first cavity (4) and a second cavity (5), wherein the first cavity (4) is suspended in the vacuum chamber, and is used for containing a first refrigerant; at least two first conduits (2) for introducing and / or discharging fluid are connected to the first cavity (4); a cooling area is below the first cavity (4); the second cavity (5) is suspended in a way of surrounding the first cavity (4) in the vacuum chamber, and is used for containing a second refrigerant; the boiling point of the second refrigerant under standard atmospheric pressure is higher than that of the first refrigerant; at least two second conduits (3) for introducing and / or discharging the fluid are connected to the second cavity (5); the second cavity (5) can be used for externally cooling the first cavity (4), and is spaced from the first cavity (4) through vacuum. The vacuum low-temperature thermostat has the characteristics of low consumption of refrigerants with low boiling points and slight vibration.
