InactiveUS7510566B2Increase healing responseRelieve painSuture equipmentsDiagnosticsChinWound healing
A tissue approximation device and processes for using the device are provided. The device is an implantable, biodegradable construct that has attachment points emanating from a supportive backing. The device improves the mechanical phase of wound healing and optimally distributes tension over the contact area between the device and tissue. Processes for using the device include soft tissue attachment and soft tissue to bone attachment. Several variations are particularly applicable to facilitating tissue approximation in surgical cosmetic applications, particularly chin lifts. Generally, tissue to be lifted may be set on a chin lift device via attachment points before or after the device is secured to a patient's bone. Variations of the device are described along with a method of installing the chin lift device. Also described is a tool particularly useful for installing a chin lift device.

A tissue approximation device and processes for using the device, particularly in the mid-face region, are provided. The device is an implantable, biodegradable construct that has attachment points emanating from at least one supportive backing. The device also has a connecting member or leash which extends between the backing and an anchor which is attached to bone or soft tissue. Attachment to soft tissue is accomplished by a second backing having attachment points emanating from the backing and attachment to bone is accomplished by a post. The connecting member allows for repeated adjustments in length between the anchor and the backing in vivo or ex vivo until the desired amount of tissue approximation is achieved. The device improves the mechanical phase of wound healing and evenly distributes tension over the contact area between the device and tissue.

An improved percutaneous lead is provided. The lead has a circumferential, concave neck located on the distal portion of the lead and a stylet lumen traversing through the lead including through the concave neck. The concave neck has a narrower circumference than the remainder of the lead. The concave neck is designed to bend up to 45 degrees with a pre-curved stylet inserted into the stylet lumen. The presence of a concave neck permits the ingrowth of tissue into and around the concave neck, thereby helping to anchor the lead post-implant. The concavity in the neck presents no sharp edges to disrupt the isodiametric lead profile.

Method and apparatus for recovering a three-dimensional scene from two-dimensional images

A method and apparatus for recovering a three-dimensional (3D) scene from two-dimensional (2D) images. A sequence of images is divided into a number of smaller segments and a 3D reconstruction is performed on each segment individually. All the reconstructed segments are then combined together through an efficient bundle adjustment to complete the 3D reconstruction. Segmenting may be achieved by dividing the segments based on the number of feature points that are in each frame. The number of frames per segment is reduced by creating virtual key frames. The virtual key frames encode the 3D structure for each segment, but are only a small subset of the original frames in the segment. A final bundle adjustment is performed on the virtual key frames, rather than all of the original frames. Thus, the final bundle adjustment is two orders of magnitude faster than a conventional bundle adjustment.

Systems and methods for archiving and retrieving navigation points in a voice command platform

A method and system for identifying, saving and utilizing bookmarks in a voice-command platform. The system allows a user to bookmark objects specified within voice-markup filed resulting in the ability to directly recall the object rather than the voice-markup file as a whole. The system of the invention also provides a user of the voice command platform with a list of proposed bookmark names that are appropriate for the object. Once a user selects a bookmark, the platform may determine that a voice command is a bookmark command, such as a request to save a given voice command navigation point in a centralized list of bookmarks for the user, or to recall a navigation point from the user's centralized list, and the platform may respond to the bookmark command accordingly. The system improves accuracy in the use of bookmarks by proposing bookmark names for a given navigation point that avoid confusion with established grammars.

System, method, and service for using a focused random walk to produce samples on a topic from a collection of hyper-linked pages

InactiveUS20060122998A1Superior in pointFaster and cheap and reliable approachWeb data indexingNatural language data processingHyperlinkWeb page
A focused random walk system produces samples of on-topic pages from a collection of hyper-linked pages such as Web pages. The focused random walk system utilizes a focused random walk to produce a focused sample, which is a random sample of Web pages focused on a topic. The focused random walk system uniformly samples pages iteratively, where each iteration follows a random link from a union of the in-links and out-links of a page. The system then classifies this randomly selected link to determine whether the page is on-topic. The random walk sampling process could comprise a hard-focus method that selects only on-topic pages at each step of the focused random walk, or a soft-focus method that allows limited divergence to off-topic pages.

Latency-aware adaptive bandwidth request mechanism for real-time communication in wimax

A method and apparatus for requesting bandwidth in a subscriber station is disclosed. The method dynamically changes the size of the bandwidth request based on the prediction of the number of packets needed to be transmitted. The average delay experienced by packets in a queue is measured, and this information is then used to change the coefficient of a prediction equation. When the experienced average delay is below the agreed upon QoS latency parameter or delay target, the method reduces the size of the bandwidth requests by making the prediction equation more conservative. On the other hand, when the experienced delay is above the agreed upon latency, the algorithm will make the prediction equation more aggressive, increasing the bandwidth requests and reducing the latency for future packets. By modifying the prediction equation based on the measured delay, the method is able to select the optimal point for achieving time delay requirements while preserving air-link resources.

Cab suspension

A suspension for a cab base on the frame of a swather tractor includes four dampened springs at the four corners with three links each pivoted on one end of the frame and the other end on the base. The links include two parallel links in the fore and aft direction parallel to the mechanical speed control link arm and one side to side link which constrain movement of the base against fore and aft movement and side to side movement parallel to the mechanical steering control link arm. This arrangement restricts movement of the base while allowing roll and pitch movements of the cab structure with the links arranged such that steering and ground speed are substantially unaffected when the cab moves on the suspension.

System and method for optimizing data recovery in a parallel database

A method and system for data recovery in a parallel database system in which data stored in the database has been corrupted by a transaction or operation. Transaction log files corresponding to each node of the parallel database are scanned to determine an operation that caused the corruption of the stored data. Information corresponding to the corrupted data before the operation causing the corruption is then generated based on the scanned transaction log. The operation responsible for corrupting the data is then rolled back, and the corrupted data is replaced with the original data stored in the database prior to the corruption.

Anchor point devices, systems and methods for use in fall protection

An anchoring system includes an anchor member to anchor the lifeline and at least one extending unit to extend the anchor member out to a working position beyond (horizontally) and above (vertically) an edge to provide for an overhead anchoring point. The anchoring system preferably further includes a support to which the extending unit is attached. The support immobilizes the overhead anchoring system so that the anchor member remains at the working position (even in the case of a fall by the worker). A method of anchoring a fall protection lifeline for use by a worker working at or beyond an edge includes the steps: elevating an anchor member to position the lifeline above the head of a worker and supporting the anchor member at the working position. The method can also include the step of extending the anchor member to a working position horizontally beyond and above the edge.
