Transponder with tamper protection

InactiveUS20140263659A1Avoid breakingEasily and reliably attached to itemStampsMarking textilesEngineeringAntenna element
The invention relates to sewable tamper detection elements for radio frequency identification devices, and to radio frequency identification devices with such tamper detection elements. The devices can be sewn into a seam of a garment so that the tamper detection element is partially inside the garment, e.g. as part of a care label. This makes removing the device difficult without breaking the tamper detection element, and thereby shoplifting attempts can be more reliably noticed. For this purpose, the tamper detection element is formed so that sewing through it does not break the element. The radio frequency identification device may be formed asymmetric so that the tamper detection element is on a different side from the antenna elements with respect to the chip. In this manner, the disturbance from the tamper detection element to the antenna can be minimized. The tamper detection element may be formed so that it contains a transparent opening on which text can be printed.

CMOS three-dimensional image sensor detectors with assured non collection of late arriving charge, more rapid collection of other charge, and with improved modulation contrast

A CMOS-implementable TOF detector promptly collects charge whose creation time can be precisely known, while rejecting collection of potentially late arriving charge whose creation time may not be precisely known. Charges created in upper regions of the detector structure are ensured to be rapidly collected, while charges created in the lower regions of the detector structure, potentially late arriving charges, are inhibiting from being collected.

Apparatus and method for eddy-current magnetic scanning a surface to detect sub-surface cracks around a boundary

An RFEC excitation unit and sensor apparatus and method that facilitate detection of cracks or other anomalies within or under a surface and immediately next to an expected structure (such as a rivet) that would otherwise cause a signal change preventing detection of the cracks. In some embodiments, the apparatus includes actuators and control that move the apparatus and analyze sensed RFEC signals to determine the location of the rivet, and then to rotate (mechanically or electronically) the sensed signal and / or excitation signal to maintain a constant relationship to the edge of the rivet in order that signals from the rivet edge are suppressed and signals from the cracks are detected. In some embodiments, the excitation unit is maintained at the center of the rivet surface, and the sensor is moved around the rivet in a circle centered on the rivet.

Enhanced efficiency feed forward power amplifier utilizing reduced cancellation bandwidth and small error amplifier

A feed forward power amplifier is disclosed which utilizes three signal cancellation loops. Loop 1 includes a main amplifier and is used to derive a carrier cancelled sample of the main amplifier output. Loop 2 includes an error amplifier used to amplify the carrier cancelled signal derived from Loop 1 operation in order to cancel distortion products generated due to the nonlinear nature of the main amplifier. Loop 2 also utilizes a very short Loop 2 delay line. A significant efficiency gain is provided due to reduced output power losses associated with the Loop 2 delay line. Lower output losses also results in lower distortion levels produced by the main amplifier. This, in turn, reduces the size and performance requirements placed on the error amplifier. A smaller and more efficient error amplifier is employed resulting in further amplifier system efficiency improvement. A spurious signal detector for out-of-band distortion detection and an associated microcontroller for Loop 1 and Loop 2 control are also provided. A third signal cancellation loop is utilized to sample the amplifier output and reduce the carrier level of the signals sampled at the output of the amplifier before providing the sampled output to the spurious signal detector. By significantly reducing the carrier power level relative to distortion power levels a cost effective spurious signal detector can be utilized. This also provides a faster conversion time in Loop 2 cancellation and enhanced cancellation of out-of-band distortion products due to a greater useful dynamic range available for the DSP employed in the spurious signal detector.
