Device and method for noninvasive continuous determination of physiologic characteristics

The invention comprises devices for noninvasively monitoring physiological characteristics of a patient's blood. Generally, probes having radiation emitters and detectors are used to determine absorbance of blood within the patient's tissue to determine various blood parameters. The device also has either a position sensor for determining the position of the probe with respect to the patient's heart or a movement generator for altering the position of the probe with respect to the patient's heart. The invention also comprises methods for noninvasively monitoring the physiological characteristics. In one embodiemnt, induced positional changes create differential hydrostatic pressures to facilitate measurement of blood parameters by absorbance. In a second embodiment, delays in pulse arrival times in coupled organs or members on opposite sides of the body are measured to determine cardiac output. The two methods are such that they can advantageously be used together.

Method for noninvasive continuous determination of physiologic characteristics

The invention comprises methods for noninvasively monitoring physiological characteristics of a patient's blood. Determinations of blood constituent concentrations may be made by comparing absorbance of radiation at varying parameters, such as path length and blood pressure. Preferably, changes in pressure are effected by changing the height of the probes relative to the patient's heart. Determinations of blood pH may be made by comparing absorbance of the blood at different wavelengths. The temperature of the blood, and thus of the patient's core, may also be accurately determined. Further, cardiac output characteristics and blood pressures may be noninvasively determined using the methods of the invention.

Video transmitting device, receiving device, video transmitting system, video transmitting method, video transmitting program, and storage medium storing video transmitting program

A PC includes a processing section and a storage section. The processing section controls operation of the PC, based on connection request data for requesting a connection. The connection request data is transmitted from a receiving device. The storage section stores video to be transmitted to the receiving device. When a connection request data recognizing section of the processing section recognizes the connection request data, a connection is established between the PC and the receiving device that transmitted the connection request data, and a transmission control section transmits a video data file read by a file handling section. In the PC, the processing section includes the connection request data recognizing section and the file handling section. Therefore, even if no instruction is made from the side of the receiving device to the PC by using a remote control, it is possible to transmit video data from the PC to the receiving device, and to reproduce the video data. In addition, the PC can transmit the video data by a transmitting scheme that is in accordance with a function of the receiving device.

The body additionally has a connecting rod extending from the front thereof for connecting to a reciprocating machine part. A conduit connects the parallel passageways and places them in fluid communication with one another. A pair of parallel guide rods extends through the parallel passageways. One of the guide rods is hollow so as to define an elongated aperture therein and has a peripheral groove around its exterior surface. A transverse passageway connects the peripheral groove and the elongated aperture. A pressurized oil source is in fluid communication with the elongated aperture so that oil supplied thereto travels to the parallel passageways to lubricate the crosshead as it moves on the guide rods.

Method and apparatus for enhancing tasting experiences

A method and apparatus to be employed in tasting processes for the purpose of characterizing the aromatic qualities of, for example, a wine, single malt scotch, hot brewed coffee or tea, chocolate, breads, food oils or similar type of aromatic product. The apparatus comprises a carrier material suitable for the support of aromatic scents of a variety found in wines, other beverages and other foods. The apparatus provides for the grouping of scents according to, for example, commonly found groupings of flavors in wine, distilled, brewed, hot brewed, food oils, chocolate or other aromatic food products. The apparatus provides for ease of separation of the individual scents or groups appropriate to the users current experience. The apparatus includes carrier material to which the aromatic scents are applied or to which the scents have been previously applied. The method of tasting using the aromatic scents comprises the use of one or more cards or subsets of the cards carrying the aromatic scents in a manner that results in a single scent or a grouping of scents appropriate to the beverage being consumed in a tasting. The vendors of many beverages have characterized the aroma of the product and one goal of the method is to enable the taster to discern the aromas of the beverage as part of his or her tasting experience.

Clip on thermal welder

A clip on welder includes two pairs of opposed grippers defined by pivotally attached upper and lower frames for latching the welder to heat weldable material, such as a length of tubing, upon actuation of a start button by an operator; thereafter, the welder operates unattended. At least a jaw of a pair of jaws disposed intermediate the two pairs of grippers heats the material compressed and lodged therebetween to form a weld in or across the material. A source of gas, such as air, under pressure selectively connected to a bellows provides the power to pivot the upper and lower frames into gripping engagement with the material. A source of electrical signals provides the power to heat the material intermediate the pair of jaws. One or more thermocouples senses the heat of the jaws and generates signals used to control the application of power and to control cooling. After completion of the weld, cooling air is directed to the jaws until the thermocouple(s) signal(s) indicates a sufficiently low temperature. Release of the welder from the material is in response to actuation of a stop button by the operator.

Drum

A drum having hidden, drum head tensioning features. The drum features a drum head assembly being positioned within a drum body. The drum head assembly includes a mounting frame having a mounting ring being loosely fitted within the drum body. A number of mounting brackets are affixed at spaced apart locations to the interior of the mounting ring. A number of first threaded fasteners are threadably engaged with the mounting ring and extend radially outward therefrom so as to selectively press against, and grip, the drum body. A number of second threaded fasteners extend upwardly from the mounting brackets. A drum head is positioned upon the mounting frame so as to cover the top of the mounting ring and to extend downwardly between the mounting ring and the drum body. A retaining band clamps the drum head against the mounting ring. The retaining band has an elongated strip extending snugly over the drum head and extending around the bottom of the mounting ring. The retaining band also has opposed ends that are turned inwardly so as to form a pair of spaced-apart fins that extend through the notch in the mounting frame. A third threaded fastener connects the fins for selectively drawing the fins toward one another and varying the tightness of the band around the mounting ring and drum head. A tensioning ring is slidably positioned within the top of the mounting ring and is positioned atop the second threaded fasteners whereby tightening the second threaded fasteners selectively raises the tensioning ring to tighten the drum head.

System and method for determination of a horizontal minimum of digital values

A system for fast determination of a horizontal minimum of multiple digital values including a difference circuit and a compare circuit. The difference circuit may include first and second adders in which the first adder compares upper bits of a first digital value with upper bits of a second digital value and provides a first carry output and a propagate output. The second adder compares lower bits of the first digital value with lower bits of the second digital value and provides a second carry output. The compare circuit determines whether the first digital value is greater than the second digital value based on the carry and propagate outputs. Multiple difference circuits may be used to compare each of multiple digital values with every other digital value to provide corresponding compare bits, which are then used to determine a minimum one of the digital values and its corresponding location.
