Personal choice biometric signature

InactiveUS7013030B2Improved high security method and systemEasy to useElectric signal transmission systemsImage analysisCombined useLinearity
A biometric method and system for personal authentication using sequences of partial fingerprint signatures provides a high security capability to various processes requiring positive identification of individuals. This approach is further enhanced by employing a frequency domain technique for calculating a Similarity Index of the partial fingerprint signatures. In a baseline usage, the sequential partial fingerprint sequence techniques augments sentinel systems for gaining access to restricted areas, and when used in combination with financial cards, offer a unique and greatly simplified means for authenticating or identifying individuals. A highly automated technique initially obtains four (illustratively) linear partial fingerprint signatures which serve as reference data against which later proffered candidate data in the form of at least two linear partial fingerprint signatures are compared for authentication. The particular two candidate signatures used and the sequence in which they are submitted are selected with the user's consent and serve as a PIN-like unique personal code. In an advanced embodiment, the same two candidate signatures in the chosen sequence are processed in a unique FFT / DFT process to produce a highly reliable Similarity Index to authenticate or verify the identity of individuals. The use of only partial fingerprint data greatly allays the concerns of widespread fingerprint dissemination by many individuals.

Eye-tap for electronic newsgathering, documentary video, photojournalism, and personal safety

A novel system for a new kind of electronic news gathering and videography is described. In particular, a camera that captures light passing through the center of a lens of an eye of the user is described. Such an electronic newsgathering system allows the eye itself to, in effect, function as a camera. In wearable embodiments of the invention, a journalist wearing the apparatus becomes, after adaptation, an entity that seeks, without conscious thought or effort, an optimal point of vantage and camera orientation. Moreover, the journalist can easily become part of a human intelligence network, and draw upon the intellectual resources and technical photographic skills of a large community. Because of the journalist's ability to constantly see the world through the apparatus of the invention, which may also function as an image enhancement device, the apparatus behaves as a true extension of the journalist's mind and body, giving rise to a new genre of documentary video. In this way, it functions as a seamless communications medium that uses a reality-based user-interface.

User-transparent system for uniquely identifying network-distributed devices without explicitly provided device or user identifying information

A technique for uniquely identifying devices without explicitly provided device or user identifying information in a networked client-server environment, e.g., the Mobile Internet, in which content is downloaded from a server to a device browser executing at a client device, and using static XML markup tags embedded in the content in a manner transparent to a user situated at the device browser, derives a globally unique device identifier. Device identifying information is captured and maintained in a device profile database associated with a globally unique device identifier. Specifically, mark up code embedded into a referring content page effectively downloads software from a distribution server, and then instantiates the software in the client device browser. The software transparently and dynamically inserts an Internet address request to a device identification management system. The device identification management system selects a device profile associated with a previously detected request from the device and retrieves its globally unique identifier from a database of all profiles for all previous devices requesting unique device identifications. If a matching profile is not found in the database, the device identifying information associated with the request is entered as a new device profile along with a globally unique identifier associated with that specific device in the database. The globally unique identifier is delivered back to the device or external systems for their own use, e.g., mobile Internet advertising management systems.

Forming coloring books from digital images

Embodiments herein include a method, service, apparatus, etc., that automatically generates a coloring book image that includes line drawings defining a small number of color coherent, clearly discriminated, closed regions while preserving the basic semantic properties of the original image. These regions hence can be filled in with colored inks, crayons, paints, etc. The method inputs a color image that can be a photograph, scanned image, etc. The method begins by transforming the color image into a chrominance-luminance space and then performs low pass filtering on the color image that preserves the chrominance edges of the features within the color image. Next, the method segments the color image into the features based on locations of the chrominance edges of the features. Then, the method can merge selected features into other features. After performing any merging, the method identifies the remaining chrominance edges of the features within the image and adds lines along the remaining chrominance edges to form outlines of the features. Then, the method automatically filters out all other data from the image to leave only the outlines and produce a revised image consisting of just the outlines. The revised image of just outlines is then output to the user.
