Digital servo control system for use in disk drives

A digital servo control system for disk drives is an "embedded" system-one in which servo control information is embedded on the same disk surface as the user data. In contrast to known embedded-servo systems in which a space-consuming series of many dibit pairs is present, the present system provides only a single dibit pair in a fractional positional error (PESF) area. Thus, the disk drive's read head encounters only a single dibit pair per sample period (or per data sector), thus saving valuable disk space that may be used for user data. Various pre-processing methods may be provided so as to pre-process the measurement derived from the single dibit pair per sample period (or data sector), so as to compensate for non-ideal characteristics of the dibit measurement. The system thus provides an accurate and robust servo control system, while sacrificing a minimum amount of valuable disk space to the servo information field.

Method for performing transactions on data and a transactional database

The present invention provides a method for performing transactions on data entities in a database and a transactional database. The database comprises an ordered set of data stores with at least one static data store, wherein said static data store uses an index structure based on a non-updatable representation of an ordered set of integers according to the principle of compressed inverted indices. The method allows to generate a modifiable data store when the performed transaction comprises an insert, update or delete operation, to execute operations of the transaction on the ordered set being present at the time when the transaction has been started and, if present, on the modifiable data store and to convert data stores to a new static data store, The insert, update or delete operation are executed on the modifiable data store which is the only data store modifiable for the transaction.

Disclosed is a wine rack, large versions of which are adapted to be installed against a wall of a room or as a free standing wall separated from the walls of a room, which is a monolithic flat rigid sheet to which has uniformly mounted in rows through holes therein a like number of wine bottle support rods which project perpendicularly and parallel to each other from one or both faces of the sheet so that two wine bottles of varying sidewall diameter can be stored on three of the rods without their side-walls touching and whose essential elements can be fabricated offsite by forming uniform rows of holes in a monolithic sheet of stainless steel; fitting in the holes machine bolts whose threaded shank ends project beyond a face of the steel sheet; bonding the heads of the bolts to the opposite face of the steel sheet so that their threaded ends project axially perpendicularly, rigidly and parallel to each other; and forming a female threaded cavity in one end of a plurality of wine bottle support rods. The thus-fabricated structural parts of the wine rack are then transported to the installation site, where the rods are coupled to the projecting ends of the bolts. A plurality of the thus-fabricated wine rack are mounted side-by-side vertically on a wall of a room at the installation site or one of them can be installed as free standing version which is stabilizing from bending or swaying at its base. A free standing version with wine bottle support rods projecting from both faces thereof can similarly be produced using short lengths of threaded steel rods which, when inserted in the holes in the steel sheet, its ends project a short distance beyond each face of the steel sheet so that the internally female threaded ends wine bottle support rods can be mounted on both ends thereof.

Direct replacement air filter with automatic filter media advance and wireless communications

The invention is directed to a direct replacement air filtration or handler filter that is placed within an air flow channel within an air handler unit having a housing. A motor in communication with a controller and having an at least one sensor input or a timer or a transceiver and processing module. A filter media storage area is located on one end of the housing, with a pleated, folded filter media folded and compactly stored inside the filter media storage area. An exposed filter media containment area is located on an opposed end within the housing with the filter media extending therebetween. The filter media being paid out or advanced from the filter media storage area across the housing where it is exposed to air within the air flow channel as it removes contaminants from the air. The motor can be activated by said controller in response to input from the at least one sensor or based on a timed input from said timer and rotate an at least one movement member to move the filter media across the exposure area. This allows for higher efficiency operation and reduces maintenance and energy costs. The sensors and communications capability allow for the use of the filter in providing Air Quality Management (AQM). AQM allows the filter to monitor the quality of the air as it passes through the filter and interact with a network system to monitor the air quality at the point of filtration.

Systems, methods and devices for applying cosmetics to the face of a user in a particular sequential order employing various assigned brushes marked with various indicia. The indicia on the brush is used to identify an association with a cosmetic similarly marked with the same indicia. The indicia defines the sequential order in which the cosmetic is to be applied to the face of a user in accordance with a sequential step-by-step cosmetic application process. This system and method may be embodied in a variety of ways including in a kit, a holder, a cosmetic carrying case and a portable and self-contained modular cosmetic unit.
