Reinforced supporting connectors for tubular grab railings

A reinforced connector for supporting a tubular grab railing has an upper tubing support that is aligned with the grab railing during use and a lower base portion which is attached to the tubing support, and is fastened a wall, floor, or other surface as a pedestal for the tubing support. The tubing support has an opening extending longitudinally thereof that divides it into upper and lower halves with the reinforcing plate held between them. The halves of the tubing support are aligned with one another to form at least one boss that is constructed and arranged to engage and support one end of a section of the grab railing tubing. The invention thus provides a composite connector assembly for supporting a section of grab railing; the composite connector being formed from dissimilar structural materials comprising an outer plastic resinous connector element with a relatively low thermal conductivity that is exposed to view and to tactile contact by the user and a hidden reinforcing plate which can be steel. Each boss is constructed and arranged to support one end of a section of the tubular grab railing. The reinforcing plate extends through the support to provide reinforcement for the tubing support including each boss and the tubing itself. An adjustable connector has two pivotally related portions with a joint that includes a pivot pin to permit angular adjustment on site. A corner elbow and end extension are also described.

Handrail for toddlers

A handrail system optimized for use-with children under 5 years of age, which includes an elongated rail and support brackets for hanging it, beneath a standard handrail, at a height of about 28 inches and within easy reach of toddlers. Shaped to fit a child's hand, the rail of generally circular transverse cross-section, defines an elongated pocket for receiving the user's thumb so that the child can grip the rail firmly. Also included is an elongated rubber insert mounted on the rail and spaced apart from the elongated pocket. The rubber insert is positioned in such a way that when the user's hand grips the rail and his thumb engages the pocket, his finger tips press against the rubber insert, reducing the child's chances of slippage. Installable by the average do-it-yourselfer, three support bracket embodiments are provided: one attachable to the standard handrail and the others to the wall.

Friction clutch

A friction clutch, in particular multidisk friction clutch, includes a wear compensation device arranged in the pressure force path of a diaphragm spring which forms the principal clutch spring. The wear compensation device is arranged between the diaphragm spring and a pressure plate which is rotatably fixed and axially movably arranged in a clutch housing. The wear compensation device has at least one pair of compensation elements that are axially expandable under the urgency of a spring element. The diaphragm spring is arranged so that it is liftable off of the compensation elements. The pressure plate is prestressed in the release direction by a ventilating spring system having a prestrssing force that is greater than the axial spreading force of the wear compensation device. A ventilating distance-limiting device is active between the pressure plate and the clutch housing and automatically readjusts to a predetermined fixed ventilating distance clearance when wear occurs in the clutch. A compensation distance-limiting stop fixed to the clutch housing limits the spreading movement of the wear compensation device when the ventilating distance clearance of the ventilating distance-limiting device has been used up. The compensation limiting stop is mounted on the compensation element of the wear compensation device which bears against the diaphragm spring.
