An inset panel fastener anchors into honeycomb substrates employed in the aircraft industry. The inset panel fastener provides significantly increased load carrying capabilities with a simple inexpensive construction. The inset panel fastener includes a plastic casing and a central floating fastener element. The casing includes a body, disk and cap. The body is generally barrel shaped including a central chamber for holding the fastener element which is preferably a female fastener. The disk radially projects from the top of the body and includes a fill hole and vent hole. Meanwhile, the cap engages and covers the bottom of the barrel shaped body. The cap is affixed in place using a weld, such as a sonic weld.

A lockout device for restricting access to a nut through which a stud passes in threaded engagement with the nut comprises a cylindrical cap and a corresponding adapter. The cap includes first and second opposite ends and has a hollow portion opening through the first end of sufficient size for receiving most or all of the nut. A threaded hole sized for threaded engagement with the stud extends in an axial direction through the second end of the cap to communicate with the cap's hollow portion. The adapter includes a leading end and a trailing end, and has a hexagonal configuration adjacent its trailing end and an axially extending stud hole through its leading end sized to accommodate the stud. A method of assembling a captive panel fastener to a printed circuit board comprises the steps of placing an axially-extending shank of a captive fastener retainer through a mounting hole in a printed circuit board, soldering the retainer to the printed circuit board, cooling the retainer, and then affixing a retractable screw assembly including a plastic screw cap to the retainer by snap attachment of the screw cap to an outside surface of the retainer.

A fastener includes a t-nut having a barrel and a flange. The flange includes an opening which leads to a threaded barrel. The threaded barrel extends from the opening in the flange to a distal end portion thereof. An end cap has an annular recess on a first side thereof and has a raised annular ridge on a second side thereof. The raised annular ridge of the end cap is affixed to the flange of the t-nut by welding the end cap to the flange. Dirt, water and moisture cannot enter the barrel because the end cap is sealed to the flange. There is described an expanding blind rivet assembly having a flange (3) provided with an undercut surface facing the rivet shank. A resilient cap (20) is formed with a cavity (22) having an opening surrounded by an undercut surface (23) within the cavity, so that the cap may be snap-engaged over the flange of the rivet after setting.
