Aircraft anti-terrorism security system

In an aircraft cabin floor adjacent to the cockpit, a trap door opens downwardly into a security cell, to trap a terrorist trying to enter the cockpit. Two walls with lockable airtight doors bound a safety buffer cabin between the cockpit and the passenger cabin. Sensors like seat occupancy sensors, motion detectors, video cameras and microphones provide data regarding the location, movement and activities of passengers to a system that evaluates the data to recognize unusual data situations indicating one or more escalation levels of suspicious or aggressive actions by passengers. Alarm signals and terrorist countermeasure devices such as fogging or tranquilizer gas generators, noise generators, high intensity blinding / glaring lights, a cabin lighting master shut-off, window darkening devices, and tranquilizer dart guns are actuated automatically by the evaluation system, or manually by a cockpit input device or a portable signaling device carried by a flight attendant.

Security checkpoint

An improved security checkpoint separates certain individuals into a secure, enclosed wanding station for additional security screening. The wanding station may be constructed using glass (or other strong, visually transparent substance) and metallic (such as aluminum or steel) posts so that people may be securely enclosed in the wanding station but still have a direct line of sight to personal items being screened at another location. The size of the wanding station may vary according to the needs of the checkpoint but preferably has room to screen three people simultaneously. The wanding station may include an entry area in which people form a queue, optimally of six people, for entering the wanding station. Two or more personal and item screening areas may share a wanding station to form a double lane module. The security module is configured so that most people pass straight through the checkpoint, and people leaving the wanding station can easily obtain their items without delaying others. The security module may further include a small item x-ray or other screening device positioned near the wanding station to expedite the screening within the wanding station.

Multi-hit transparent armor system

A multi-hit transparent armor system is described and claimed herein for improving the resistance of transparent armor to incoming projectiles. Typically, the transparent armor is framed within a window opening of a security structure. An exemplary, contemplated structure is an armored combat vehicle. My system includes a sheet of tempered glass that is also positioned within said window, but is deployed outboard of said transparent armor and is also parallel planar thereto. Positioned below said sheet of tempered glass, and coaxial thereto, is an opaque armor panel that is more efficient and effective against multiple projectiles than either the tempered glass or transparent armor alone. The tempered glass sheet and the opaque armor are typically loaded under compression by a spring assembly. An incoming projectile, launched from a position outboard and also remote from said structure, will first strike the tempered glass before hitting my transparent armor. Thereby, the tempered glass sheet will undergo global failure and is effectively removed from the window opening. In turn, the spring assembly translates the opaque armor into the position formerly occupied by the tempered glass sheet. Subsequently arriving projectiles are then defeated by the opaque armor panel.
