31 results about "Window of opportunity" patented technology

A window of opportunity (also called a margin of opportunity or critical window) is a period of time during which some action can be taken that will achieve a desired outcome. Once this period is over, or the "window is closed", the specified outcome is no longer possible.

Computer and method for on-demand network access control

A computer and method that control access to a network. The computer includes an application that shrinks the window of opportunity for a network attack and reduces power consumption by automatically causing a computer to connect to the network when access is needed and to disconnect the computer from the network when access is not needed. The computer is automatically disconnected when it is deemed that network access is no longer needed, such as after a time period of no network activity. In turn, when the user, or the system, needs access to the network, the computer is automatically reconnected to the network. A software daemon on the computer may temporarily reconnect the computer to the network to access a server on the network to determine if attempts have been made to access the computer.

Control of a drug infusion device

A drug infusion device determines whether an infusion program is stored within a memory. If so, a user is prompted to confirm usage of the program and a drug identifier, and to review the configuration of the device. If the program is not in the memory, the drug infusion device is enabled to receive an auto program with which it can configure itself. When auto program receipt is enabled, the drug infusion device waits for the auto program or for a selection for manual entry of the infusion program. A menu screen is displayed to indicate that the drug infusion device is waiting for the auto program, but the menu screen is not displayed if the auto program is already received. Therefore, a waiting for auto program menu screen may be avoided in many cases, reducing device setup time. In some embodiments, removal of a drug vial resets the device to a point after a power-on self-test and thus provides an easy method for resetting the device to a point that avoids unnecessary steps and expands a window of opportunity for receiving an auto program compared to prior work flows.

Security system including a method and system for acquiring GPS satellite position

A security system and a method and apparatus utilize a transmitter and a receiver with a GPS sub-system in a GPS appliance. Ephemeris and almanac data are updated at preprogrammed times within coordinated windows of opportunity. Each GPS receiver is preferably kept in an inactive state to reduce power consumption except at the preprogrammed times and uses time-compressed formats of GPS ephemeris data. An additional receiver makes possible the use of a coordinated window of opportunity whereby the receiver is set to an active state to receive complete ephemeris data sets when transmitted. The security system monitors conditions. Security sensors may respond to a condition to “awaken” a transmitter that may then transmit a report providing the location of the appliance. The report may include manifest information such as the identity of a container to which the GPS system is affixed, the sensor reporting the breach and its location.

Method and system for dynamically changing the transport sequencing in a cluster tool

By dynamically adapting the transport sequencing rules of a cluster tool, the overall performance of the tool may be increased. In some illustrative embodiments, the transport sequencing rule for a robot handler may be dynamically changed when a lot of small size is present in one of the load ports in order to increase the window of opportunity for carrier exchange of a standard lot size currently processed. Consequently, by reducing the overall process time for the currently processed lot while delaying the completion of the small lot, the currently processed carrier may be exchanged earlier, thereby reducing the overall cycle time of the currently processed lot and / or providing a next lot earlier to the tool.

Business Method of Providing a Channel for Delivering and Distributing Events Based on a Subscription Model for Service Providers to Enhance Sales Opportunities

Sales associated with service providers are increased using an opportunistic approach based on an unexpected change in a schedule or services (time, location). Windows of opportunity (time, physical location) are automatically identified, and once such a window of opportunity is detected, the people affected directly from the change of a schedule are identified. This information is then used by service providers to act quickly in order to enhance sales. Both service providers and consumers setup a personalized profile in a database, and the system uses a matching process to match related service providers to the consumers' preferences.

Directional microphone

A directional microphone is disclosed which comprises a microphone array (3) having a plurality of microphone elements (4,5,12,13) of which the element (4) is a rear element and the other elements are forward elements. A processor (19,31) is connected to the elements. The processor can be a hardware processor for processing signals or it can be a software controlled system for processing signals. The processor determines the arrival of a wave at one of the forward elements (5,12,13) and thereafter establishes a window of opportunity for receipt of the wave at the rear element (4). The window of opportunity is set such that only waves emanating from a particular direction will arrive in that time frame, thereby enabling acoustic waves from that direction to the processed by the microphone and other waves from different directions eliminated. The angle of arc of the microphone from which acoustic waves are received and processed can be set by changing the size of the window of opportunity t3-t2. In the hardware implementation, the processor includes filters (21,22), zero cross-over detectors (23,24), monostables (25,26) and flip-flop (28) for setting a timing signal and triggering the flip-flop (28) to control the switch (29) so that if a wave does arrive at the element (4) within the bandwidth of the filters (21,22), an audio signal corresponding to the wave is transmitted from the element (4) through the switch (29) to an output (30).
