113 results about "Visual cueing" patented technology

Visual cueing. A visual cue is a signal which your brain extracts from what you see. It indicates the state of some property around you that you are interested in perceiving. Now, only 1% of what you see actually enters through your eyes (the rest is -surprisingly correct – made up by your brain).

Expression editor

An expression editor for creating and editing mathematical formulas is implemented as a computer software program. Using the editor, a keyboard and mouse are used to perform actions that build and traverse mathematical structures with a single visual cue, either for the purpose of displaying mathematics in a document, performing a scientific computation, or any combination of the two.

Methods and apparatus are provided for controlling pointer movement on a user interface display screen in a computer system. Selected areas of a display screen are defined to provide predetermined pointer movement control actions. Visual cues to the selected areas are provided for the user. In accordance with a feature of the invention, the pointer movement control actions assist computer users in selecting desired operations or objects while minimizing potential for inadvertent user selections or mistakes.

Method and system for predicting ship motion or the like to assist in helicopter landing

A method for a short-term prediction of future ship motion in open water to furnish visual cueing information that can be remotely presented to a pilot during an aircraft landing is described. Two sets of samples of the sea surface geometry along a radial azimuth line from a ship as a function of elevation of a sensor are first acquired. These are compensated to remove the components due to the ship's motion. Two wave traces are then separately derived in Cartesian format from the two sets of acquired samples. These wave traces are subjected to a Fast Fourier Transform to detect the amplitudes and phases of the individual wavelength components. The direction of the wavelength components is determined using a measure of their phase change in the scan direction during the time interval between the two scans together with their measured wavelength. The amplitude, direction and phase of each component is utilized together with the known motion characteristics of the moving ship in order to derive a short-term prediction of future ship motion in the time domain. A quiescent period of the ship motion is located by comparing the short-term prediction with the pre-defined operating limit criteria. Finally, a message signal is transmitted to the pilot of the aircraft indicating Time-to-Land and the duration of the quiescent period.

Bird repellent

A bird repellent composition containing a combination of anthraquinone and a visual cue; or anthraquinone and d-pulegone; or anthraquinone, a visual cue and d-pulegone is disclosed. The combinations have been found to produce a synergistic and unexpected effect of increased repellence to birds. One application is the area of pest control baits where the repellent composition is applied to the surface of the bait. Birds are less likely to be harmed by the toxins contained within the bait because they are repelled from the bait. A second application is for horticulture use, whereby the repellent composition is applied to the plant, fruit or ground around an orchard or vineyard thus repelling birds.

Storage Bag With Textured Area On Lips To Facilitate Closing Process

ActiveUS20140093192A1BagsSacksEngineeringMouth lips
A storage bag has first and second closure profiles that include interlocking members configured to seal an opening of the bag. A textured area is provided on the first closure profile adjacent to the interlocking member and adjacent to an end of the first closure profile. The textured area provides a visual cue to indicate that the process of sealing the interlocking members should begin at the end of the first closure profile and move towards a center of the bag.

Proximity-triggered handrail cueing system with automatic attention capture

The present invention provides a proximity-triggered handrail cueing system with automatic attention capture for providing visual and auditory cues that automatically and involuntarily (subconsciously) attract attention to the handrail. The system includes a hand railing (i.e. handrail or grab bar) constructed from translucent or transparent plastic tubing, a series of lights mounted inside the railing, along the longitudinal axis, one or more auditory speakers built into the railing or railing brackets, and a proximity detector (e.g. photoelectric sensor) and controller that activates the lights and speakers whenever a person approaches the railing. The speakers can be used to issue a verbal prompt to hold the handrail. The lights inside the railing are triggered to suddenly start flashing in such a way as to automatically and subconsciously attract attention to the handrail, thereby facilitating ability to rapidly and effectively reach and grasp the handrail for support in the event that the person does not hold the railing voluntarily and subsequently experiences a sudden unexpected loss of balance. Sounds emitted by the speakers can also be used to improve the ability to rapidly grab the railing in response to loss of balance. Embodiments of the system may include: 1) a proximity-triggered handrail cueing system with automatic attention capture elicited by visual cueing, 2) a proximity-triggered handrail cueing system with automatic attention capture elicited by auditory cueing; and 3) a proximity-triggered handrail cueing system with automatic attention capture elicited by a combination of visual and auditory cueing.

Cleaning device

This invention relates to a cleaning device comprising a cleaning composition and a substrate. The cleaning composition comprises an absorbent particulate, a binding agent, and optionally, a thickening agent. The cleaning composition may be applied to a substrate, such as a textile substrate, by applying the composition to at least one portion of the surface of the substrate or by incorporating the composition throughout the substrate. The absorbent particulate generally exhibits a high affinity for particles, color, grease, oil, and other staining materials and is a soft material which allows for gentle cleaning of most surfaces without detrimentally abrading and scratching soiled surfaces. The absorbent particulate also serves as an indicator providing a visual cue of its cleaning efficacy and may be used in either a wet or dry state.

No-head-turn putting and swing teaching aid

InactiveUS20080146363A1Readily and conveniently deployedConveniently deployedGolfing accessoriesEngineeringHuman–computer interaction
A teaching aid promoting better shots in golf by prompting the user to keep his or her head still. Using a downwardly extending panel, the teaching aid system as described herein provides and / or enhances visual cues to the golfer so that he may keep his head in a still or relatively still position while making the shot. Such shots may particularly include the putt, but may also be applicable to the chip and the drive. A variety of embodiments provide multiple means by which the present system may be implemented. The descending panel may be folded into an invisible, unobtrusive, and / or unobstructive configuration that may either be incorporated into a hat or removably detachable from it.
