Embodiment Construction

[0010] The subject matter of the invention is described herein by characteristics in order to satisfy statutory requirements. However, the description itself is not intended to limit the scope of this patent. Rather, the inventors contemplate that the claimed subject matter may also be embodied in other ways, to include different steps or combinations of steps similar to those described in this document, in connection with other present or future technologies. Furthermore, although the terms "step" and / or "block" may be used herein to refer to distinct elements of a method employed, such terms should not be used unless and except when an order of individual steps is explicitly described. is to be construed as implying any particular order between the various steps disclosed herein.

[0011] Embodiments of the invention are generally directed to using visual cues to refine search results. More specifically, visual cues associated with groups of query results are used to deter...

Abstract

The invention provides a method facilitating refining of inquiry results via visual cues, and a computer storage medium comprising an instruction capable of being executed by a computer facilitating refining of inquiry results via visual cues. In response to instructions of user inquiry, inquiry results are determined. According to categories of the inquiry results with common similar characteristics, a group or many groups of inquiry results can be generated from the inquiry results. The visual cues are associated with each group of the inquiry result groups. The visual cues associated with the inquiry result groups are presented to users. The inquiry results associated selected visual cues can be presented to users. According to the selected visual cues, refined user inquiry can be generated.

Description

Background technique [0001] When a user query is entered into a search results web page, the user query generates a variety of results. Such results may include links to articles, videos, images, and a wide variety of other types of information that may or may not be relevant to the user's original query. The amount of information presented with respect to each query result is often minimal, providing little guidance for the user's final result selection. [0002] In some cases, a user enters a specific user query that does not accurately express the nature of the user's request. For example, a user may enter a generic term without understanding or recognizing a term that is more specific to what the user intends to research. Search results web pages use a variety of methods to interpret user intent, particularly in determining the type of results presented to the user and the manner in which such results are displayed. Contents of the invention [0003] This summary is p...
