189 results about "Service catalog" patented technology

A service catalog (or catalogue), is an organized and curated collection of any and all business and information technology related services that can be performed by, for, or within an enterprise. Service catalogs act as knowledge management tools for the employees and consultants of an enterprise, allowing them to route their requests for and about services and services related topics to the subject matter experts who own, are accountable for, and operate them. Each service within such service catalogs is usually very repeatable and has controlled inputs, processes, and outputs.

Provisioning services using a cloud services catalog

The present invention provides a system and method for provisioning Cloud services by establishing a Cloud services catalog using a Cloud service bus within a Cloud computing environment. In one embodiment, there is a Cloud services catalog manager configured to connect a plurality of Clouds in a Cloud computing environment; maintain a catalog of integrated Cloud services from the plurality of connected Clouds; and display an index of the integrated services on a user interface. Using this system and method will allow for multiple disparate services, offered by different partners, across unrelated, physically distinct Clouds to be presented as an index of integrated services.

Generating a service-catalog entry from discovered attributes of provisioned virtual machines

A method and associated system of automatically generating an entry of a service catalog of a cloud-computing environment as a function of discovered attributes of a virtual machine provisioned in a non-cloud computing environment. A cloud-management platform of the cloud-computing environment analyzes and compares results of infrastructure-discovery and application-discovery tools that describe a business application or a virtual service provisioned on the virtual machine. The cloud-management platform, or a related service-catalog generating entity, uses these analyzed and compared results to automatically generate a service-catalog entry that represents or describes a cloud business application or service associated with the virtual machine, and enters the automatically generated entry into the service catalog. When a user of the cloud-computing environment requests the cloud business application or service, the cloud-management platform may then offer the business application or service as a function of the automatically generated entry.

A framework of a service directory that can handle service records changing rapidly is provided by using a content-based routing network. A directory node for providing the service directory is called a data resolver. The data resolver listens for service advertisements for certain service categories from service providers, and stores such advertisement data in the form of service records in a local cache. If a data resolver receives a query for some services, it first looks in the cache. If the cache contains at least one service record that satisfies the query, the data resolver returns the record. Otherwise, the data resolver issues a secondary query corresponding to the query it received, to other data resolvers connected by the content-based routing network. Simultaneously, the data resolver begins listening for service advertisements (service records) from other data resolvers on the content-based routing network.

Process for creating service action data structures

A process for assisting a user to order the IT services the user wants even if the user is not familiar with the proper IT terminology or concepts. The process comprises: displaying an IT services catalog; determining if a user that wishes to order an IT service selects an option for computer assistance in selecting a service action; if a user requests assistance, displaying questions in an order dictated by a decision tree defined in advance by an IT professional, and traversing the decision tree based upon answers provided by the user via computer input devices until one or more recommendations for service actions have been encountered; gathering all recommended service actions and filling in fields in a data structure based upon answers given by said user; upon completion of step 3, or if said user does not request assistance in step 2, soliciting said user to fill in all unpopulated fields of a data structure defining one or more service actions which are either selected by the user or which have been recommended by processing the decision tree and validating all user data input.

A method, apparatus, and computer instructions are provided for deploying and instantiating multiple instances of applications in automated data centers using an application deployment template. A first mechanism is provided to deploy multiple instances of applications using an application deployment plan template. The first mechanism uses deployment parameter sets to generate corresponding deployment plans based on the deployment template. A second mechanism is provided to instantiate multiple instances of applications using deployment plan templates. A service catalog that is exposed to consumers for selection of catalog items is built on top of the second mechanism. During the cataloging and order fulfillment process, the second mechanism instantiates multiple instances of applications using the generated deployment plans and an application model to deploy multiple application instances. An existing order may also be modified or terminated responsive to a user request or service term expiration.

Method and system of identifying software and firmware objects available for download over a network such as a cable television system

This method and system allow a subscriber to a cable television service to receiving a listing or menu of programming available for that subscriber's set-top terminal to upgrade or enhance the features available over the cable system. A Directory of Services (DoS) message is transmitted over the cable system to the subscriber's set-top terminal. The terminal can then display for the subscriber the menu of programming available. This display may include a price for downloading each programming object. The subscriber can then, using a remote control unit or a user input device on the terminal, direct the set-top terminal to acquire a listed programming object. The DoS message will provide information enabling the set-top terminal to download the indicated programming object from the cable system in response to the subscriber's input. The subscriber can then have immediate access to upgraded or enhanced programming, the purchase of which is billed to the subscriber's account.

Generating a service cost model using discovered attributes of provisioned virtual machines

A service cost model for services offered in a cloud-computing environment is generated by discovering cost-related attributes in a service catalog of provisioned virtual machines and applications provisioned thereon. The set of cost-related attributes includes at least one of the following: outage frequency, time to repair, cost of repair information, and time claimed by each resource type to fix past outages. The generated service cost model is tracked and adjusted against actuals periodically to reflect the true cost of offered services. Further by federating with other cloud service providers, the costs of a same service are compared between the different providers, and accordingly a recommendation for a provider based on the costs is proposed.

Service directory and management system

A unique process-oriented task database contains a hierarchal organization of work tasks. A service provider selects one or more tasks from the database to populate a record corresponding to the service provider; and the record is recorded in a service provider database. A consumer selects tasks from the task database to query the service provider database. The consumer then searches the service provider database with a search engine using tasks selected from the task database. The search engine returns a list of one or more service providers satisfying the search criteria, including the process-oriented task or tasks that the service provider selected from the task database.
