A receiver in a wireless communication system comprises a reverse transform configured to produce a vector of baseband signal values, and a projection canceller configured to project the vector of baseband signal values onto at least one subspace that is substantially orthogonal to an interference subspace. The reverse transform may be adjoint to a forward transform employed by at least one transmitter in the wireless communication system. The combination of interference cancellation with one or more receiver operations may be a substantially adjoint operation relative to one or more transmitter operators and channel-propagation effects. The reverse transform may include a Fourier transform, a wavelet transform, or any other well known invertible transforms. Reverse transforms may include spread-spectrum multiple-access coding and may be implemented in systems configured to perform single-input, multiple output or multiple-input, multiple-output operations. Interference components may be selected in a projection canceller relative to predetermined ratios of interference in the received signal.

Replica correlation processing, and associated representative signal-data reduction and reconstruction techniques, are used to detect signals of interest and obtain robust measures of received-signal parameters, such as time differences of signal arrival and directional angles of arrival, that can be used to estimate the location of a cellularized-communications signal source. The new use in the present invention of signal-correlation processing for locating communications transmitters. This enables accurate and efficient extraction of parameters for a particular signal even in a frequency band that contains multiple received transmissions, such as occurs with code-division-multiple-access (CDMA) communications. Correlation processing as disclosed herein further enables extended processing integration times to facilitate the effective detection of desired communications-signal effects and replication measurement of their location-related parameters, even for the communications signals modulated to convey voice conversations or those weakened through propagation effects. Using prior, constructed, signal replicas in the correlation processing enables elimination of the inter-site communications of the signal representations that support the correlation analyses. A method of transmitting information over a non-linear optical channel includes the step (152) of generating an information-bearing signal, preferably an OFDM signal, which includes a plurality of closely-spaced sub-carriers in the frequency domain. A time-varying phase modulation is determined (154), which is a first function, and preferably a linear function, of the transmitted optical power corresponding with the information-bearing signal. The information-bearing signal and the time-varying phase modulation are applied (156) to an optical source in order to generate a corresponding transmitted optical signal having substantially the stated transmitted optical power characteristic. The first function of transmitted optical power is selected so as to mitigate the effect of the non-linearity of the optical channel upon the transmitted optical signal. In alternative arrangements, a time-varying phase modulation, being a second function of optical power, is computed (162) and applied (164) to a signal received following transmission through a non-linear optical channel. The two alternative arrangements provide, respectively, for pre-compensation and post-compensation of non-linear propagation effects that may be carried out entirely within the electrical domain, for example using digital signal processing techniques.

According to the short-spike and root-grafting rapid propagation method, the grafting is realized at the smooth parts of radicles and the root systems of plants are developed, so that the survival rate and the growth amount of nursery stock can be effectively increased and the culture time of the stock is greatly shortened; and the scions are short, and thus the utilization rate and the propagation coefficient of the scions are improved. The short-spike and root-grafting rapid propagation method has the advantages of convenience for operation, high work efficiency and better economic benefit and social benefit; and according to the method, the scale propagation effect of the camellia azalea stock is ensured.

A method and apparatus for implementing wireless internet connections for a plurality of portable computing devices located within a given area or hotspot. The invention employs a combination of wired and wireless links to manage propagation effects of the transmitted signal and to reduce interference with signals transmitted in adjacent spaces. In accordance with one aspect of the invention, the existing wiring infrastructure at the hotspot, which may be coaxial cable for CATV, is used as the wired segment. A broadband signal, containing internet data obtained from a central computer, is transmitted from a plurality of access points. The signals transmitted from the access points are injected onto the existing wiring, with the broadband signal isolated from the data or power signals carried by the wiring infrastructure. At the outlet ends of the coaxial cable, the broadband signals are separated from the existing data or power signals and coupled to high efficiency antennas which radiate a signal throughout the corresponding living or activity space. In the case of a hotel room, for example, the signal is broadcast for reception anywhere within the hotel room. In accordance with one aspect of the method of the invention, the broadband signals are broadcast from the various access points using several carrier frequencies or channels, and distribution of the channels is arranged to avoid adjacent room same channel interference.
