Remotely monitored and controlled building automation system

A remotely monitored and controlled building automation system is disclosed providing efficient offsite use of BAS personnel to monitor and control such systems while utilizing relatively inexpensive alarm monitoring services to advice of system emergencies. In a first preferred embodiment, the building automation system transmits a simplified BAS/energy alarm (including only building identity information) via a specially adapted and configured local security panel to an offsite monitoring center. Thereafter, the alarm is re-transmitted to a BAS web server and on to a BAS website. The BAS website provides notification of the energy alarm to trained BAS technicians located at a remote dealer and enables such personnel, via the website to maintain two-way communication with the building automation system from which the alarm originated. Such personnel are thereby enabled to fully analyze and properly respond to the circumstances which resulted in the alarm. In a second preferred embodiment, the building automation system transmits the simplified BAS alarm directly to a security monitoring center. A BAS controller is disclosed, especially configured and adapted to generate an “energy alarm” upon reception of sensor data indicating the existence of conditions beyond programmed parameters and to provide two way communication of detailed BAS data between the controller and an offsite location. In addition, an especially configured and adapted security panel is disclosed, including a specially coded sensor position, whereby reception of a simplified BAS alarm by the security panel is recognized and re-transmitted to a monitoring center as an energy alarm.

Medical robotic system with programmably controlled constraints on error dynamics

A medical robotic system has a robot arm holding an instrument for performing a medical procedure, and a control system for controlling movement of the arm and its instrument according to user manipulation of a master manipulator. The control system includes at least one joint controller that includes a controller having programmable parameters for setting a steady-state velocity error and a maximum acceleration error for the joint's movement relative to a set point in response to an externally applied and released force.

An interactive interface facilitates the setting of preferences and other programmable parameters of an appliance. The interface is hosted by a server on a global computer network. The appliance owner initiates a connection to the server and is presented with a graphical user interface for setting the preferences and features of the appliance. Once the desired settings have been made, they are downloaded to the appliance either directly from the server or the appliance owner's computer or indirectly using a portable transfer device.

Operation scheme for programming charge trapping non-volatile memory

A circuit and method for self-converging programming of a charge storage memory cell, such as NROM or floating gate flash. The method includes determining a data value from one of more than two data values to be stored in the memory cell, and applying a gate voltage to the control gate at one of a predetermined set of gate voltage levels selected in response to the determined data value. Programming parameters are controlled to establish a self-converging threshold state that is determined by the selected gate voltage. In this manner, the threshold voltage converges on a target threshold corresponding with the determined data value for the memory cell. Program verify operations are reduced or eliminated in various embodiments, reducing the overall time required for the program operation, and improving device performance. A second portion of the program operation can include verify operations to improve threshold margins across the array.

Independent control of a flavor enhancement chamber and a food preparation chamber for a food preparation device

A combination for preparing a food product and method of using the combination are disclosed. The combination includes a housing supporting a cooking chamber, which communicates with a flavor enhancement chamber. The cooking chamber and the flavor enhancement chamber are selectively and independently controlled by an automated controller. In using the combination, a user provides the food product, places a flavor enhancement substance within the flavor enhancement chamber, arranges the food product on a preparation rack, and position the rack with the food within the cooking chamber. With the food positioned within the combination, the user programs parameters for a food preparation cycle into an operating code resident in the automated controller. Upon activation by the user, the controller executes the operating code. In response, the flavor enhancement chamber releases a flavor enhancement for impregnation into the food product, and the cooking chamber completes preparation of the food product.

Method and apparatus to backup, update and share data among implantable cardiac stimulation device programmers

A system is provided for backing up and synchronizing data stored within a set of programmers used for programming implantable cardiac stimulation devices such as pacemakers or implantable cardioverter defibrillators (ICDs). The data from the programmers that is backed up and synchronized includes programmer software, set up and configuration data, programming parameters, patient personal data, implantable device diagnostic data, and patient diagnostic data received from implanted devices. The implanted devices are classified into one or more groups and the programmer backup system merges and synchronizes data received from all programmers within a particular group. In other words, the backup system operates to ensure that each programmer within a particular group shares the same set up and configuration data, programmer software, patient contact data, and device diagnostic information. Programmers within different groups may have different data stored therein, particularly different set up and configuration data, patient data and the like. The merging and synchronization of data may depend upon the particular type of data. For example, all devices connected to the backup system may be synchronized to have the same programmer software, whereas only programmers within a particular group may be synchronized to have the same set up and configuration data, patient data, and the like.
