Systems and methods for ambulatory monitoring of physiological signs

InactiveUS20020032386A1Improve health care outcomeReduce health case costElectrocardiographyInertial sensorsSports activityCardiac functioning
The present invention relates to the field of ambulatory and non-invasive monitoring of a plurality of physiological parameters of a monitored individual. The invention includes a physiological monitoring apparatus with an improved monitoring apparel worn by a monitored individual, the apparel having attached sensors for monitoring parameters reflecting pulmonary function, or parameters reflecting cardiac function, or parameters reflecting the function of other organ systems, and the apparel being designed and tailored to be comfortable during the individual's normal daily activities. The apparel is preferably also suitable for athletic activities. The sensors preferably include one or more ECG leads and one of more inductive plethysmographic sensor with conductive loops positioned closely to the individual to preferably monitor at least basic cardiac parameters, basic pulmonary parameters, or both. The monitoring apparatus also includes a unit for receiving data from the sensors, and for storing the data in a computer-readable medium. The invention also includes systems comprising a central data repository for receiving, storing, and processing data generated by a plurality of physiological monitored apparatus, and for making stored data available to the individual and to health care providers.

Non-invasive and minimally invasive denervation methods and systems for performing the same

A system and method can be used to denervate at least a portion of a bronchial tree. An energy emitter of an instrument is percutaneously delivered to a treatment site and outputs energy to damage nerve tissue of the bronchial tree. The denervation procedure can be performed without damaging non-targeted tissue. Minimally invasive methods can be used to open airways to improve lung function in subjects with COPD, asthma, or the like. Different sections of the bronchial tree can be denervated while leaving airways intact to reduce recovery times.

Heart-lung preparation and method of use

An isolated heart or heart-lung preparation in which essentially normal pumping activity of all four chambers of the heart is preserved, allowing for the use of the preparation in conjunction with investigations of electrode leads, catheters, ablation methods, cardiac implants and other medical devices intended to be used in or on a beating heart. The system can be designed to be used within a Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) unit or a X-ray computed tomography (CT) scanner. The preparation may also be employed to investigate heart and lung functions, in the presence or absence of such medical devices. In order to allow comparative imaging visualizations of either or simultaneously the heart and/or lung structures and devices located within the chambers of the heart or vessels or bronchi within the lungs, a clear perfusate such as a modified Krebs buffer solution with oxygenation is circulated through all four chambers of the heart and thus the coronary and/or pulmonary vasculatures. A ventilator with intubation tube can be used to inflate/deflate the lungs and/or provide oxygen to the isolated organs. The preparation and recordings of the preparation may be used in conjunction with the design, development and evaluation of devices for use in or on the heart and/or lungs, as well as for use as an investigational and teaching aid to assist physicians and students in understanding the operation of the cardiopulmonary system.

Methods and compositions for the treatment of fibrotic conditions & impaired lung function & to enhance lymphocyte production

The present invention provides methods and compositions to treat fibrotic conditions, to increase lymphocyte production in vivo, and to improve and / or normalize lung function, pulmonary compliance, blood oxygenation, and blood pH to inhibit inflammatory processes to stimulate or inhibit pro-inflammatory and immune cells, and to inhibit migration of vascular endothelial cells. The invention contemplates the administration of human uteroglobin, native or recombinant, as a means of achieving these ends. Specifically, it has been found that uteroglobin inhibits cell adhesion to fibronectin, increases lymphocyte production in vivo, and improves and / or normalizes lung function, pulmonary compliance, blood oxygenation, and blood pH, and inhibits inflammatory process. In addition it has been found that uteroglobin can stimulate or inhibit pro-inflammatory and immune cells and inhibitor migration of vascular endothelial cells.

The invention discloses a lung function meter which comprises an air pressure detecting end and a handheld terminal. The air pressure detecting end is provided with a controller, an air pressure sensor connected with the controller, a power supply module and a communication module. The handheld terminal is provided with a controller, a displayer connected with the controller and a communication module. The air pressure detecting end and the handheld terminal are connected in a wireless-communication mode. The invention further discloses a lung function detecting method which comprises the following steps that (1) the air pressure detecting end detects breathing air pressure in real time through the air pressure sensor; and (2) the handheld terminal displays the breathing air pressure collected by the air pressure detecting end in real time. The invention further discloses a mask with a lung function detecting function and a respiratory training device. The breathing air pressure of a user can be measured conveniently in an electronic mode, real-time displaying is achieved, and training control is carried out.
