Livestock breeding and management system

A method and system for livestock breeding and management for use with a herd where each female animal carries a radio frequency identification (RFID) tag. The system comprises a herd management system and one or more breeding activity monitors to be carried by each male animal. Each breeding activity monitor is adapted to detect when the male animal is mounting a female animal based on the body position of the male animal, read identification data from the RFID tag carried by the mounted female animal, and generate breeding activity data including the identification data of the mounted female animal, mounting male animal and timing data for each mounting for output to the herd management system. The herd management system is adapted to process breeding activity data output from the breeding activity monitors to generate herd management data.

Core-Temperature Based Herd Management System and Method

A system and method for managing a herd of animals possibly requiring medical treatment, such as cows in a feedlot. The animals are herded individually into a chute, where identification data is collected from a tag, and core temperature data is collected using a special non-contacting core temperature sensor. The animal is tagged with a color coded tag representing a range of temperatures into which that animal's temperature falls. The animal is then delivered to a pen corresponding to that range of temperatures, where appropriate medicinal treatment is automatically dosed and applied to the animal.

Herd management technology

A method of determining breeding status in animals by (a) determining a breeding event (cyclicity, mounting, pregnancy, open) time, (b) providing an estrus or other breeding event detection apparatus, (c) affixing the estrus detection apparatus at a predetermined location on a female animal at a predetermined application time prior to the breeding event time, and (d) monitoring the estrus detection apparatus for activation thereof. An indicator apparatus is provided for use in indicating when an animal is in estrus. The apparatus is configured to be affixed to the rump of an animal to detect and indicate when the animal has been mounted and, thus, when the animal is in estrus. The apparatus is affixed to the animal by an adhesive layer. Layered on the top surface of the adhesive layer is an indicator layer that is in turn covered with a floodcoat layer. The floodcoat layer is adapted for removal upon the mounting of the first animal by a second animal. Removal of the floodcoat layer exposes the indicator layer indicating that the first animal has been mounted, thereby indicating that the first animal is in heat. The floodcoat layer is highly visible and may be seen from a distance.

Fixed-point grazing method and device thereof

The invention relates to a satellite location technique, which aims at solving the defect of high management difficulty which is caused by few herdsmen and huge herds and the defect of grass resource destroy which is caused by over grazing in the prior art, and provides a fixed-point grazing method which comprises the following steps: S1, a GPS signal is received in real time and current position information is generated; S2, whether the current position is located in a predefined graze region is determined, if no, an alarming indication is sent out. The invention further provides a fixed-point grazing device in which the method is applied. The technical proposal of the invention has the advantages that: by setting the position information of graze regions in the fixed-point grazing device and combining with the GPS location information, livestock can be automatically limited in a predefined graze region, which not only saves the labor required for grazing and simplifies herd management, but also effectively avoids the grass resource destroy which is caused by over-grazing by simply modifying the graze region information to change different graze regions.

Method of herd management

A method and system to generate the highest level of return on investment of a cattle ranch producing beef to the consumer. Through the use of computer software integrated with an individual cow and calf identification system, the method and system disclosed herein allows a cattle producer to analyze the yearly production characteristics of each individual cow's calf or calves through all the various phases of growth and production with an accumulation of the economic cost and gain of value up to the end product as a feeder or cull. The total value of the carcass at the end of production, expressed as a sum of the costs associated with producing each animal minus the market value of the animal, allows the animal's economic value to be expressed by one figure which can then be used to judge the cow's ability to produce animals that meet all predetermined economically important genetic traits. This system and method of cow herd management provides a continuing improvement in the efficiency of the ranching operation and a better product for the consumers.

Method for the computer-based identification of mastitis

InactiveUS20100263595A1Avoiding unnecessary analysis methodUnnecessary analysisCathetersMilk sampleGround fact
A method for the computer-based identification of mastitis of milk-producing animals of a herd, wherein individual animals are automatically identified by an animal identification means of a herd management system, and a milk sample assigned to the animal is taken and analyzed for the identification of mastitis. The method takes into account the fact that different animals in a herd have an individual tendency to contract mastitis, so that not all the animals in said herd have to be examined with the same frequency for a possible case of mastitis, and the method according to the invention correspondingly proposes that after the animal identification process, the herd management system decides whether a milk sample is taken and / or analyzed, based on animal-specific information that is stored in the herd management system.
