Transapical delivery system for heart valves

ActiveUS20110015729A1Facilitate positioning of valveHelp positioningStentsBalloon catheterProsthetic valveProsthetic heart
A delivery system and method for delivering a prosthetic heart valve to the aortic valve annulus. The system includes a delivery catheter having a steering mechanism thereon for delivering a balloon-expandable prosthetic heart valve to the aortic annulus in an antegrade fashion through an introducer passing into the left ventricle through its apex. The introducer may have a more floppy distal section than a proximal section to reduce trauma to the heart wall while preserving good operating field stability. The delivery catheter includes a deflecting segment just proximal to a distal balloon to facilitate positioning of the prosthetic heart valve in the proper orientation within the aortic annulus. A trigger in a catheter handle may be coupled to a deflection wire that actuates the deflecting segment, while a slider in the handle controls retraction of a valve pusher. The prosthetic heart valve may be installed over the existing calcified leaflets, and a pre-dilation valvuloplasty procedure may also be utilized.

Methods of manufacturing vertical semiconductor devices

Methods of manufacturing vertical semiconductor devices may include forming a mold structure including sacrificial layers and insulating interlayers with a first opening formed therethrough. The sacrificial layers and the insulating interlayers may be stacked repeatedly and alternately on a substrate. The first opening may expose the substrate. Blocking layers may be formed by oxidizing portions of the sacrificial layers exposed by the first opening. Medical guide element with diameter transition

Improved medical filaments for use with dilators to be inserted into a patient, for example into the vascular lumen, are provided, as well as combinations of filaments and dilators. Methods for use of such filaments and filament-dilator combinations are also described. The filament includes a proximal segment and a distal segment. The diameter of the distal segment is greater than the diameter of the proximal segment. The change in diameter is abrupt, providing a discrete step transition at a point along the filament which presents a proximally-facing surface on the distal segment. When the proximal segment of the filament is fully inserted into a dilator having a distal tip adapted for insertion into a patient, the dilator distal tip firmly abuts the proximally-facing end surface of the distal segment. The relative dimensions of the dilator tip and the discrete stepped transition of the filament provides full shielding or over shielding of the dilator tip, thereby facilitating passage of the dilator tip along the tissue track, through the puncture hole and into the orifice.

Piston and rod assembly for air-actuated variable damping

A damper includes a piston that carries a relatively compact control valve for controlling fluid flow through the piston. The control valve provides a variable amount of damping by regulating damper fluid flow between the extension chamber and the compression chamber of the damper during extension and compression strokes. Pressure regulation across the piston is controlled through a flow path as determined by the control valve. The damping force of the damper varies depending upon the loading conditions of the vehicle. The control valve is air pressure actuated to adjust the damping force and control the flow of fluid in the flow path. The piston and rod assembly include unique features such as a seal plate design, and spring retainer that aid in the efficient and reliable assembly in a commercial production setting.

Apparatus and method for beverage container cooler with deflected compliant seal

A supplemental cooling device for a beverage container. Ice and water are introduced through a top opening in a housing which is wider than the outside diameter of the container, so the container is freely inserted into the housing. A lid assembly with a compliant seal is removably threaded to the housing. When in a relaxed and open position, the seal has an opening which is also wider than the outside diameter of the beverage container. After inserting the container, the lid assembly is tightened against the housing, and the compliant seal is deflected against the beverage container to isolate the annular space between the housing and beverage container, thereby allowing the housing and beverage container to be tipped for drinking without spilling the coolant. Once the drink is consumed, the compliant seal may be disengaged so that it is open again, permitting easy removal of the beverage container.

Radiant Burner

A highly efficient radiant burner assembly (100) for use in a patio heater or the like in areas where people prefer or require low NOX emissions. The efficiencies are created through the use of a spherical burner element (116) that is either formed of a high temperature steel wire mesh or stamping containing apertures of a predetermined size to allow combustion to remain within the burner element and to not cause the temperature of the burner element to exceed the temperature at which NOX are developed. Coating the burner with a catalyst also aids the low emission combustion process. Additional efficiencies are provided by atomizing the fuel before it is mixed with air and by the use of a laminar flow heat exchanger (940) that utilizes a fluid media flowing in a helical coil condenser unit.

Paper-back tape dispenser

A paper back tape dispenser that includes a cylindrical outer shell with a center cavity designed to receive a standard roll of paper back tape. The outer shell includes a side opening with a forward extending lip. Formed on the distal edge of the lip is a serrated cutting edge. Aligned and attached to the rear surface of the outer shell is a hollow pipe Formed on the inside and outside surfaces of the short pipe are two longitudinally aligned slots. Located inside the short pipe is a sliding piston. Extending through the piston and the pipe is an axle that partially extends into the cavity to hold a spool that fits inside a roll of tape. A spring is disposed inside the pipe that automatically holds the axle in an upward position on the pipe. During use, the portion of the axle that extends outward acts as a finger bar that is used to lift the axle upward so that new, large roll of tape may be placed over the axle and into the cylindrical cavity.
