Method and apparatus for embossing container walls

A method and apparatus for embossing the sidewalls of heavy gauge sheet metal containers involves clamping over a top edge of an opening into the container using a press carrying complementary embossing dies. The clamping apparatus can be a portable punch press having opposite members on a solid C-shaped frame, one being movable by a hydraulic drive cylinder to bear against the other. The die set coupled to the clamping apparatus has opposite protrusions and depressions representing an indicia to be embossed on the container, such as a trademark, symbol, owner's name or other indicia. In one embodiment the container is a dumping refuse container with an opening edge reinforced by a frame. The press has an opening throat that spaces the dies sufficiently that the clamping apparatus can be clamped over the reinforced edge to space the point of deformation of the sheet metal from the edge of the opening. The die set can form raised characters, a bas relief or another shape, the disclosed example being an externally raised logo, e.g., about 0.125 inch high and formed over an area of about four by seven inches using a 50 ton press.

Magnetic badminton racket and magnetic shuttlecock

The invention discloses a magnetic badminton racket comprising: a handle, a shaft, a head frame including an outer surface and an inner surface and a plurality of gut strings crisscrossed within the inner surface. The head frame is provided with a magnet mounting section centered on its top, and several sockets are provided into the outer surface, spaced from each other and vertical to the outer surface. Several small neodymium magnets are fixed within the sockets, with their top surfaces exposed and flush with the outer surface. Each magnet is in the shape of a cylinder, cuboid, truncated cone or truncated quadrangular pyramid, which possesses strong magnetic attraction, is not subject to detaching and would not affect the aesthetic appearance of the racket. The invention also discloses a shuttlecock suitable for use together with the racket, to enable to pick up shuttlecock conveniently by mean of magnetic attraction therebetween.

Heat exchanger

A heat exchanger having excellent heat exchanging performance is obtainable by a simple production technique and at a low cost. This is achieved by providing a fin member and by increasing heat conductivity between the fin member and a meandering pipe body. Further, the heat exchanger is made compact for high degrees of layout freedom, enabling the heat exchanger to be installed in a tight space. Engagement grooves (8) are provided in both end surfaces (6, 7), which are opposite to each other, of a fin member (5) in which fins (4) are parallel arranged. Straight pipe sections (2) are parallelly arranged, with gaps (16)in between, in the engagement grooves (8) of the fin member (5). The straight pipe sections (2)a are connected at bent sections (3). A pair of meandering sections (11, 12) is arranged opposite to each other with an insertion gap (17) of the fin member (5) in between. On (11) of the meandering sections and the other meandering section (12) are connected by a connection pipe (13) to form a meandering pipe main body (1). The straight pipe sections (2) of the one meandering section (11) are arranged in the engagement grooves (8) in the one end surface (6) of the fin member (5) inserted and arranged in the insertion gap (17) between the one meandering section (11) and the other meandering section (12) of the meandering pipe body (1), and the straight pipe sections (2) of the other meandering section (12) are arranged and fixed in the engagement grooves (8) in the other end surface (7).

Electromagnetic radiation generation using a laser produced plasma

An extreme ultraviolet radiation generator is disclosed in which Xenon gas is continuously ejected from a high pressure nozzle into a low pressure chamber to generate Xenon atom clusters which are irradiated with a high repetition rate pulsed laser to form a plasma and yield quasi-continuous EUV generation. The nozzle has a beveled outer rim to enable the focus point of the laser light to be brought close to the nozzle. The nozzle is cooled to a temperature at which background Xenon gas condenses onto the nozzle forming a protective layer. A gas compressor serves to recirculate the Xenon gas and batch purification triggered by a mass spectrometer monitoring gas purity may be periodically applied.
